Will President Obama "seize power overnight" in a move to consolidate White House control of the U.S. government?
That's the fear of Fox News anchor Glenn Beck who discussed the issue at length today with another broadcasting powerhouse, radio's Rush Limbaugh.
"I fear this government, this administration has so much framework already prepared, that they will seize power overnight before anybody even gives it a second thought," Beck said.
His comment came as he was analyzing the changing nature of the media since Obama's election, citing the administration's close ties with the NBC network, owned by corporate giant General Electric:
If you watch what could only be called the administration's organ – anything involved with GE or NBC – you've got [GE CEO] Jeffrey Immelt on the board of the Federal Reserve, you have him in the Oval Office consulting not only on health care, but the financial situation, and they are an organ. If you watch MSNBC, I contend that you will see the future because they are laying the ground for a horrible event ... anything from the right, there's some awful event and I fear this government, this administration has so much framework already prepared, that they will seize power overnight before anybody even gives it a second thought.
Limbaugh responded, "I don't think they're going to be able to seize it overnight without anybody knowing about it."

That is the question. OK, so the Right gets all riled up and screaming at the TV and grabs their guns and walks out the front door and ... then what? Those making a US coup happen will be well insulated, their replaceable minions taking the opposition down one at a time, trained and ready for that conflict while those who rise up have little clue.
Doesn't help that such talk by Glenn will be viewed by the general public as proof the Right has gone raving nutters with Obama Derangement Syndrome. He may be right, but recall how we viewed the deranged anti-Bush Left...

I think American Tower is bigger (23k towers). Towerco has 3k (their website says they are the fifth largest).
But I think you are on the right track. Who owns the comm backbone over those towers? I think it's a handful of the largest providers. The ideal internet for our purposes would be a mesh in which everybody owns their own equipment and connects to everybody within reach. There would still be a need for a backbone, but that could be provided by connecting valuable customers in the mesh to businesses who would pay for the connection to those customers. There would still be room for sabotage if the network were not designed properly (e.g. rogue nodes could jam it).
With new integrated processors (next year) and a small solar panel, a mesh node could easily be set up anywhere (no need for a big honking tower).

A mesh network operated by the people would be the most safe from government takeover, but I have yet to see a viable effort to create one.
i think losing his job is a risk he is willing to take. he is hoping to be proved WRONG about it bc the implications if he is correct are pretty sobering. he is waiting to be corrected by the WH on any of his facts and the only thing he’s heard so far is that the diversity guy at FCC isn’t a czar he’s a diversity officer, and they pointed out that one other of the actors he is discussing DID receive senate confirmation. nowhere are they disassociating themselves from or denying the radical ties of these people. you cannot look at the objective facts of what he is presenting and not wonder what the hell is up.
Oh sure there will be elections, we have one scheduled for next year.

Your post had some viable ideas and made an excellent point. But I believe the EMP must be set off at high altitude and requires a tremendous amount of energy (i.e. a nuke).
The pressure of a national following is turning Glenn Beck into one of the crazy populists. Art Bell. Which is a shame because he is a real talent.

And wait until the Obama’s a civilian national security force gets unleashed.
Said Obama in 2008:
“We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.”
Stuff like that will only make a revolution or civil war LIKELY.
I’ve been looking for this list- thanks for posting. Elizabeth Warren has been quite outspoken about the abuse of the TARP funds and has repeatedly asked WHERE is the money? ..so it seems she’s one of the good guys.

I honestly don’t know what to think anymore- and that in itself is unsettling. Sometimes I think Glenn has gone toooo far..and then I have to ask- who would ever have believed the last six months could have happened.
The truth is that since the Professor Gates affair, which Obama DISSED the LEOS, he has lost their support. Plus most if not the majority of the military are conservative and will not tolerate being USED.
I would expect Beck has enough sercurity at hand.
All he needs is one good crisis. A terrorist attack or a right wing bombing. Anything that can to used as a rational for “Save the Nation” extra-powers. He is setting it all up by letting things get so bad. One good attack and so many quick re-actions will see this become a total socialist state without free elections in a few days. Next thing will be a disregard for the constitution and Obama made president for life. Republicans party will be banned as a hate group. The internet will be taxed and controlled and Fox network banned. Expect show trials for Glen Beck and Sarah Palin or they might just vanish after being denounced as something horrible— I pray I am wrong. We may have to hope the US military will step in and stop the madness.

Obama has lost the LEOS, since the Gates affair when he called them stupid. The military is conservative and DO NOT SUPPORT OBAMA and what was seen in Houndorus is a TRUE PREVIEW of what will really happen.
