He came to be known as a stalwart proponent of what is currently being called a liberal or even progressive social agenda. However his change of position on the fundamental human right, the right to life, like others now identified with those labels including Rev. Jesse Jackson, changed entirely. In fact, with Kennedy's change the entire content of the meaning of those political labels seems to have changed. Senator Kennedy began his political career as a strong defender of the rights of children in the womb. For example, in 1971, Senator Kennedy described his then strongly Pro-Life position in these words:
"While the deep concern of a woman bearing an unwanted child merits consideration and sympathy, it is my personal feeling that the legalization of abortion on demand is not in accordance with the value which our civilization places on human life. Wanted or unwanted, I believe that human life, even at its earliest stages, has certain rights which must be recognized -- the right to be born, the right to love, the right to grown old.
"I share the confidence of those who feel that America is working to care for its unwanted as well as wanted children, protecting particularly those who cannot protect themselves. I also share the opinions of those who do not accept abortion as a response to our society's problems -- an inadequate welfare system, unsatisfactory job training programs, and insufficient financial support for all its citizens.
"When history looks back to this era it should recognize this generation as one which cared about human beings enough to halt the practice of war, to provide a decent living for every family and to fulfill its responsibility to its children from the very moment of conception."

This is going to
Cause even more nausea
Than the Jackson thing.
Teddy is feted,
But Mary Jo Kopechne
Still lies in her grave.

Maybe Im alone here, but my guess is that behind the closed office and chamber doors in Washington this morning, the Dems are breathing a collective sigh of relief that they no longer have to deal with the living breathing millstone of Ted Kennedy hanging around their necks. Oh, theyll pay verbal homage to a 40+year serving senator, say all the right things, get some face time and press the flesh, but this guy was a quiet stain that they couldnt cover up. They dont have to defend him any longer, they dont have to always consult a Kennedy when making a power decision, and they no longer have to kiss his sizeable ass. Its the end, FINALLY, of Camelot.
Now then can concentrate on Bamalot.

yup..he had no real friends... Just drinking buddies and fellow politicians. Without his money, name and power Teddy Bare would have been largely scorned and ignored .. Let the devil kick him around, we're done with his voice. His legacy will fester us.

If they even THINK about trying that, the right will dub the bill "Kopechnecare" and kill it.
Cheers!

Since the Bamster is already up in Martha's vineyard, will he attend the funeral -- recall it was Uncle Ted's endorsement of TheClotheslessEmperor over the Hildebeast which got him the nomination.
And will he use it to push for Kopechnecare Obamacare?

I saw him and some of his nephews and their aides in the Hawk and Dove on evening, drinking, yelling, playing pool and just generally being boorish ham-heads....what a disgusting, repulsive bunch of layabouts. What would they be doing if JFK had never become president? Probably padres of some Irish mafia family.

I think he hated the America he grew up in, and worked strenuously to see it done away with.
Aren't you confusing that with Obama. No wait, Obama grew up in Indonesia.
