Rep. Jim Moran's town hall meeting descended into chaos Tuesday night as protestors clashed -- in one case violently -- with supporters of a broad federal health care expansion, leading the 8th District Democrat to angrily seek to evict some of the loudest demonstrators.
Moran and former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean addressed a crowd of at least 2,500 at South Lakes High School in Reston, weathering hours of catcalls and heckling mixed with shouts from supporters.
Outside, a spillover crowd of protestors and counter-protesters shouted slogans at each other. A man in a Cato Institute T-shirt scuffled with a man wearing an Obama T-shirt, punched him in the face, and was shortly after kicked off the property by police officers.
Police said they were seeking to avoid arrests to help keep the crowd under control.
Inside, the scene was just as raucous. Moran -- fuming that his introduction of Dean was met with jeers -- finally lost his temper with the crowd.
"There are hundreds of people in this gymnasium who can't hear [Dean] because of a handful of people," Moran said. "These folks are not from the 8th District, they don't really belong here, and I'm going to ask them to leave."
Moran is a supporter of the $1.6 trillion House health care bill that would create a new government health option. The bill, mired in disputes among Democratic factions, has proved a lightning rod in town hall meetings across America.
The meeting hosted by Moran contrasted sharply to a town hall in Springfield held by 11th District Democrat Gerry Connolly earlier in the day.

Exactly what I was thinking.
The Washington Post’s take
Moran Defends Public Option
A raucous crowd of about 2,500 people jammed a high school gymnasium in Reston on Tuesday night to hear U.S. Rep. James P. Moran Jr. offer a robust defense of Democratic efforts to reform health care.
Several hundred other people crowded outside South Lakes High School, barred from entering the full town hall meeting, where seating was first come, first served. Accompanied by physician and former Vermont governor Howard Dean, Moran (D-Va.) told the crowd that he thinks reform efforts must include a public option.
Moran called the public option the piece of reform that “could do the most to bring down long-term medical costs and to adequately insure every American.”
*break*
“Liar! Liar!” a man shouted as Moran ticked off each point. “Despot!”

Howie Dean’s face was priceless. It was almost childlike the way he stood there motionless, licking his lips nervously and waiting for rescue. I guess the insulation of the democrat hierarchy doesn’t expose him to much disagreement.
And as I said in another thread with lots of pictures the other day, pre-printed signs in the Obama font do not scream “grass roots”, they scream “propaganda”. The more the media shows them, the more that message will sink into the minds of the general (i.e., fence-sitting) public.
I think we should play the same game...
“Outside the gymnasium a scuffle broke out and a pro-Obama man wearing Birkenstocks and a tie-dyed shirt tried to kick a grandmother in the balls, but missed. He seemingly failed to grasp the concept that women don’t actually have balls. He was shoved back into the gutter where he belonged, then lit up a joint and slunk away into the night while muttering something about hating the Bush family.”
How’s that?
Hey, was it one of the guys in post 26??
Where did you see that?
You flatter them!
It was on one of the Fox shows tonight...either Hannity or Greta (I think it was Greta’s show).
Oh, I wonder if it will be repeated. I’ll have to check.
The factory-made signs are a dead giveaway. They are too lazy to make their own. In the weeks to come we will see a lot of Democrat Astroturf.
Instead of chanting, waving signs, venting, and just generally acting out, here’s a better idea:
1. Find trial lawyers and others who are familiar with “cross-examining” people.
2. Find areas where Moran is wrong, and think up questions that would make him look bad (real questions, not rants).
3. Have the trial lawyers “cross-examine” him with those questions.
4. Upload it to Youtube.
Wouldn’t that be far more effective than simply ranting and raving?

claims that 1,000 of those signs were distributed by the Community Organizer in Chief(OFA)!.
I think what those ads will draw is push back.
I love that photo! It’s hilarious.
Something like that may happen. We’ll see. Moran’s going to do whatever Obama wants him to do anyway.
