Global Warming or Global Cooling?
by Jason Lomberg, Technical Editor
Ecnmag.com - August 24, 2009
Gentlemen, start your debatingaccording to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the July average was the highest recorded ocean temperature in 128 years. Julys worldwide average of 62.6 will revive the global warming debates, inasmuch as some will cite this as evidence of climate change. Julys high water mark (pun intended) will certainly be repeated ad nauseum by politicians, journalists, and activists of all stripes. With reports of ocean temperatures topping 88 degrees, there appears to be clear evidence of global warmingat least one would surmise by the breathless media coverage. And if observers read the first line of the NOAAs reportThe planets ocean surface temperature was the warmest on record for July, and stopped there, theyd have no cause to think differently. Read further and youll discover an inconvenient detail. The report states that, Large portions of many continents had substantially warmer-than-average temperatures during July 2009. But it also mentions that, Cooler-than-average conditions prevailed across southern South America, central Canada, the eastern United States, and parts of western and eastern Asia. One could argue that ocean temperature is more indicative of global climate trends. But this conflicts with one immutable factthe Pacific Decadal Oscillation is locked in a cooling phase. Based on this, one could argue that weve entered a period of global cooling. But then, that doesnt sound as sexy, with the cavalier indictment of industry. Obviously, if climate trends are cyclic, then global warming (as a persistent phenomenon caused by humans) is baloney. |

Hey, you know, whatever works. it won’t be long before the federal government figures out that it can tax and regulate us in order to stop both global warming and global cooling. Why waste two good crises right?

Either way, Bush’s fault and the only way to undo it is for the US Federal Government to have absolute power.

What is a good place to go to get real time readouts of water temperatures at various places in the ocean? I’d expect this to be a boon to beach business.

Three months into the next ice age, Obama will seize control of all assets in the United States to combat the ice age.
Three hours after that, he'll tell people they should just wear thicker sweaters.

Small cars will be subject to punitive taxes. Large SUVs will be subsidized.
Coal plants will be subsidized, wind and solar will be regulated out of existence.

With the cooler summer with record lows in July and a elneio brewing down south there will be more moisture in the air so this looks like a wetter winner than normal.

Obviously, it’s neither warming nor cooling. It’s global mating. The earth is becoming so randy that it’s getting hot and cold flashes, on account of the sexy way that Saturn is shaking her rings at him. Mt. Everest is getting larger by the century! We’ve got to do something! Quick, before they go out on a hot date and next thing you know, millions or even billions could perish as they frolic together in the milky way! Convene the UN Security Council immediately! We wanted change, but not this kind.

Right now, I’d like to offer all American citizens the right to migrate to cooler climes in Canada, in the event of global warming.
In return for recriprical rights, in the event of an ice age.

Old Professer to neverdem
For about four weeks now I have been posting to many of these Global Warming threads and warning everyone that 2009 is going to be the year that official announcements from various sources, most notably the NOAA, will be the closing argument for the proponents and the proverbial nail in the coffin for the denialists.
Already NOAA has pronounced July 2009 as the warmest sea/ocean temperatures ever recorded and combined land/sea temps as first the 2nd warmest and now, after adjustment, 5th warmest.
This is based on newly combined surface measurements after corrections and adjustments plus rapidly-increasing open sea rises almost .7C in one day, July 12, 2009 alone.
Since then the temperatures are still far ahead of last year and just barely below the aggregate 20 year record line.
By years end if the trend continues unabated, the overall assessment for 2009 will be higher than 1998 or pushing for a tie.
I look for a leak to come out just in time for the December summit in Copenhagen.
Stay tuned...”

the July average was the highest recorded ocean temperature in 128 years. This is a very interesting conclusion, especially since the data used to calculate average ocean temperature has only been available since 2002. Prior to that, ocean temperature data was reported by mariners and the best of that data came from the age of sail when the temperature and velocity of ocean currents were very important to sailors hoping to sail to a particular port.
Once steam ships became the norm, such data was rarely and sporadically collected. That changed in 2002 when satellite based sensors were widespread enough to permit worldwide sampling.

Which they have been measuring for about 150 years. Yeah I don’t buy the warmest ever quote.

Now your name is on “the list” too.........

The new wording is “Global climate change”. They had to change it because the warming trend has reversed......

I would like to know where too.
There are something like 3000 robotic ocean temperature sensors placed around the world. They’ve been there for quite some time, yet not one, NOT ONE, site has ever released ANY data which is purported to originate from these sensors.
I think there is a good reason why, I assert that they show plummeting ocean temperatures

Recent data would suggest based on sunspot activity and the strength of magnetic fields associated indicates rather than going into a “Dalton minimum”, a mild cooling phase we are heading into a “Maunder minimum’ that occured between 1645 and 1715 causing a “mini ice age” where severe global cooling happened with global food shortages with starvation etc. The sun has not been this free of spots for a hundred years so if this continues get ready. Instead of global warming, the earth has been cooling since 1998. The Antartic ice pac is at record levels associated with above normal Arctic ice pack. Don’t worry about the polar bears, they have plenty of ice to lounge on. If the current white house occupant gets his cap and trade disaster passed, I feel this will be the final nail in the coffin of the US economy. Our countries future is hanging in the balance because of the Marxist in the white house. I am 73 so I don’t worry about me, but for my kids (8) and numerous grand kids. God help save our country from this POS in the white house. JM
