Sen. R.C. Soles shoots one of two home intruders

Columbus County Sheriff Chris Batten said Kyle Blackburn was taken to Loris Community Hospital in South Carolina, though he did not know the extent of his injuries.

The shooting occurred on Soles’ property in Tabor City when two men went to the senator’s house and tried to kick in his front door, Batten said.

The other man involved in the incident is B.J. Wright, Batten said.

The State Bureau of Investigation is probing the shooting, Batten said, because the agency is already looking into accusations against the senator.

A man accused Soles of attempting to molest him, leading authorities to ask the SBI to investigate. The man later said his allegation was false.

There is also this article that says he voted in favor of a Castle Doctrine bill back in May (the bill stalled in the House). Given the number of incidents of young male acquaintances having already trespassed onto his property, perhaps he thought he'd need it.

(There's also the political consideration: Soles' district is slightly Republican.)

It could just be that Soles, truly out of an attempt to do good, is giving these young criminals money in the hopes that they will reform (he’s said to have put a couple of them in rehab), but his liberalism makes him too stupid to see the real results of his actions.

This is the third or fourth time I’ve heard of one of these guys he’s been giving money to, turn around and break into his property. They’ve all seemed to have done that at some point.
