Obama invokes grandmother's death in health debate

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) - Now, it's personal. President Barack Obama invoked his own anguish over the death of a loved one as he challenged the debunked notion that Democratic efforts to overhaul the nation's health care would include "death panels."

"I just lost my grandmother last year. I know what it's like to watch somebody you love, who's aging, deteriorate and have to struggle with that," an impassioned Obama told a crowd as he spoke of Madelyn Payne Dunham. He took issue with "the notion that somehow I ran for public office or members of Congress are in this so they can go around pulling the plug on grandma."

"When you start making arguments like that, that's simply dishonest—especially when I hear the arguments coming from members of Congress in the other party who, turns out, sponsored similar provisions," Obama said.

In a debate in which he often sounds professor-like, Obama spoke with a rare bit of emotion that seemed to counter that of vocal health care opponents as he referenced the beloved grandmother who helped raise him and who he called "Toot." She died of cancer at age 86 on Nov. 2, two days before he won election to become the nation's first African-American president.

SHOVE IT HUSSEIN. YOU HAD ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD TO CARE FOR YOUR GRANDMOTHER. WE WON'T HAVE THAT UNDER YOU COMMUNIST PLAN.

Joker ought to quit acting like he's a victim.

What a steaming pant-load. I wonder which professor-like Obama it was, this one who referred to his beloved grandmother as "Toot" (hmmm....)

Or, perhaps it is this Marxist professor-like guy, with a chalkboard of scribbles straight out of Rules for Radicals

I saw the footage of this on Fox earlier, and my initial reaction was that he is totally detached. For him to make a quip about “pulling the plug on grandma” within breaths of mentioning his own grandmother’s death is NOT normal, and made me shudder.

The question was, in effect, “Are there panels that weight the value of a human life against economic considerations?”

Obama’s answer: “I really felt bad when my grandmother died.”

This guy never answers questions with reference to the evidence. He just deflects them.

When he went to see her he knew she was dying and yet he didnt take her Great grandchildren with him , nor his wife.

He didnt make the funeral. Didnt have the time. Went down later and tossed her ashes off a cliff. Cremation is cheaper than a funeral.

What a phony this guy is.

Is it a coincidence that Obama’s Grandmother Dunham passed away on election eve, November 3, 2008? It is related to the constitutional eligibility of Obama? Once he was confident in victory, he had to take care of loose ends. Dunham was the last living US witness to the events and location of BHO’s naissance. Curious, they announce on election eve that she has succumbed from cancer, yet all the news previous to that was that she had a broken hip from a fall, went to the hospital and recovered. An election eve passing from a heretofore unannounced ailment is just too creepy. Hawaii officials said simultaneously there is a ‘birth certificate’ in our vault but its sealed.

This is “Queen for a Day” sob story not a health care debate. I got a hang nail story that will tear your eyes out.

So he wiped the tire tracks off old granny and pulled her out for public viewing once more?

Those are great questions. When he last visited her, it was him alone, and he did not spend too much time there. It was strange.

The reports of the timing of her death was also suspicious — as is the fact that it wasn’t until some weeks later he finally made it back for a funeral service. And also that she was cremated, ashes tossed into sea, rather than buried next to her husband in the military cemetery in Oahu.

Re: “He finally visited her a few weeks before she died (without the wife and kids, who may have never met her)...’

I don’t know if this is accurate but here is a report that O and family met with his grandmother:
“During their vacation, Obama and his family visited Dunham at her apartment nearly every day.”
from: http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/election2008/2008-10-21-obama-grandmother_N.htm

Does anybody have other reports or any contrary reports?

Tell me about it, my son just celebrated his 30th 14th birthday last month.

He’s got a bag of excuses that would put Johnny Appleseed to shame.
