A SCOTTISH soldier has been praised for making the longest recorded kill in Afghanistan after shooting a top Taliban fighter from almost a mile away.
Corporal Christopher Reynolds took out the Afghan drug lord during some of the hardest fighting of the war so far.
The 25-year-old, of 3 Scots, The Black Watch, kept watch on a shop rooftop for three days to eliminate the target.
But he admitted the top-level Taliban fighter known as Musa was so far away it took him a couple of attempts to get the aim right.
Initially Musa, who was with four men, did not even realise he was being shot at.
But Cpl Reynolds, of Dalgety Bay, in Fife, together with his spotter Lance Corporal David Hatton, worked out different factors such as wind speed and the trajectory of the bullet to hit the target. Musa, who was more than 1,500 metres away, was taken out with a

Actually Billy did it “only” 1200 yards at best. Still a hell of a shot, especially given the weapon technology of the day.

Yeah... that .337 Lapua is a beast! ...no more than the dreadful old .416 Rigby necked down!... if I remember correctly.
That's RIGHT...you DO have one! I couldn't remember, but now I remember you telling me about it. :-)
I didn't take SoapGirl 500 yard shooting last week...too many things going on. But THIS week we're going to make it over there. Failing that, we marked off another 300 yard "range" at another friend's farm. We might use that one because the first place has the "possibility" that boys want to watch, and she's NOT into spectators...especially boys. :-) ...it's unfortunate really, because I actually approve of these boys. :-)
NITE!

Cpl Reynolds, who has killed 32 Taliban fighters, said: I was quite proud of that shot. It is the longest recorded kill in Afghanistan. I am going to use that fact as a chat-up line in the pub when I get back home. He'd certainly be found in plenty of free drink in my company.

The greatest shot of all time - Dixon shot a sky-lined Cheyenne out of the saddle at a mile using a Sharps with iron sights and , of course, no spotter. That shot ended the Comanche wars and caused Quanah Parker to go back to the reservation.
From a homeschooler currently teaching Texas history to his six year-old ;-)

Furlong. What an appropriate name. A hero yes but if they keep plastering his name and hometown around on the news like they are he won't be around "furlong"

Thanks.
Richter scale irony:
Carrying case: designed to
hide folded weapon in
conventional back pack, making
it harder for enemy to identify
sniper as a high-value target
Thanks, Daily Express...

Excellent job. The media might as well list the soldier’s home telephone number, vehicle license tag, and children’s names while they’re at it. Sheesh! Yeah, esp. with so many nasty-minded Moslems running around Finsbury Park.
Wonder if anyone is looking after the lad's family back home?
Excellent shooting, though.

Looks a little larger than my 7.62x54 RomaK PSL. snipper is accurate up to 1200-1300 meters.

Was there not a Canadian in the early days of the Afghan adventure who made a shot at around 2500 yards?
I seem to recall one that beat Carlos Hathcock’s 2300-yard .50BMG shot.
