Senator Jay Rockefeller is going to be in Charleston tomorrow at a meeting on healthcare. Below is an email sent out by the AARP. As you can see, the email gives instructions on how to RSVP for the event. They note that the event is by RSVP only, so please call 304-340-4606 as soon as possible. Many folks are planning on showing up at 9:30. Just in case not everyone gets into the meeting, a peaceful demonstration will be held at that time. The Obama administration has launched a new Web site to battle what it calls “wild rumors” about the health care reform plans being pushed through Congress — including an invitation for the public to tattle on any other “myths” they come across. It comes a week after the White House asked the public to send in “fishy” information about health care reform. The Web site, activated Monday, uses the same set-up as the “Fight the Smears” page the Obama campaign maintained last year to battle rumors seen as potentially damaging to his candidacy.

The unemployment rate rose to 6.1%, the highest level since September 2003. That’s up from 5.7% in July and 4.7% a year ago.
In addition, the economy suffered a net loss of 84,000 jobs in August, according to the U.S. Department of Labor, compared to a revised reading of a 60,000 job loss in July.
The U.S. economy has lost 605,000 jobs so far this year.
