Was Obama in the US Senate as things fell apart?
What efforts did he make to prevent it?

Oh yeah - he got paid as a senator while he skipped his duties as a senator in order to run for president.

BTW, here’s an interesting ironic tidbit - Creigh Deeds’ fundraiser was at the Hilton Hotel in McLean, VA. Deeds was picketing the Hilton just a few months ago (wanted unionization).
