The Long Island mom behind the wheel in a fiery wrong-way crash that killed her and seven others along a New York state highway was reportedly drunk and had high levels of marijuana in her system, authorities said Tuesday.
The findings were part of a toxicology report that was conducted on 36-year-old Diane Schuler in the wake of the deadly July 26 crash along the Taconic State Parkway in Briarcliff Manor, The Journal News of Westchester reported on its Web site.
The findings were shared with relatives of the crash victims, which included Schuler's 2-year-old daughter and three nieces.
Schuler was coming home to West Babylon from an upstate camping trip when she drove her Ford Windstar minivan against traffic for 1.7 miles along the northbound lane of the Taconic.

Sorry Lord - doesn’t deal with reality - but hey! who knew Free Republic had so many LOADIES logged on! Or Californians who want to tax the stuff to bail out their pathetic state finances...
Wow, that was so insightful.
Is it the Old Milwalkee you drink that leads you to such indepth insights, or is it the Ripple?
I am sure it was the booze and not the potent weed she was smoking that made her disoriented. At 1:30 in the afternoon how drunk you think she was? What was the BAC reported to be?
Look for more of this if California is stupid enough to legalize pot.
This does not add up to the actions of an adult who was "just" drunk and stoned. I used to live less than a mile from where this happened, and it's damned difficult to get on one of those parallel major thoroughfares the wrong way by mistake.
Oh my, how horrible for that family! It was bad enough before, but, to find that it was for such a senseless and avoidable reason only adds to their pain.
Prayers continue for that family.
Actually there are allowable amounts of alcohol a person can drink before they are considered intoxicated. One can estimate how many drinks they can have before they are legally drunk. You do not have the same option with pot.
That’s only HER family. She crashed into another vehicle with a father and son and son’s friend, who were all also killed. Very little written about them.
Maybe she was still impaired from partaking previously, even the night before?
Drug laws will work as well as gun ban laws have worked in Washington DC.
This is very strange. It’s almost like she didn’t know she’d been drinking or taking pot. Calling her brother? It’s just strange.
The three men from Yonkers.
Shhhhhhhhhh dfw, now you’re just gonna confuse the Drug Warriors with that crazy logic talk.
Wrong logic.
I was not following this closely and had not heard those facts. If true, wow.
“Hey Marijane is harmless.”
Not true, but also irrelevant.
And she drove almost 2 miles the wrong way with cars passing her and honking.
I’m not buying it, she killed herself and others.
If I knew my sister or sister-in-law partook of booze and/or drugs, I’d be damned before I’d let her drive my kids around the corner or even out of the driveway.
The article says she was in the wrong way land for 1.7 miles before crashing into the other vehicle. It would be interesting to see what establishments are near the exit where she got back onto the Taconic going in the wrong direction, and what she may have done with her time there, i.e., drink/smoke or if anyone noticed a woman acting irrationally while in charge of 5 kids.
There is no good way to look at this, it was a totally avoidable horror.
How so?
Marijuana has been illegal since 1937.
It is no closer to being done away with now than it was in 1937.
