WAUSAU, Wis. – A central Wisconsin man accused of killing his 11-year-old daughter by praying instead of seeking medical care was found guilty Saturday of second-degree reckless homicide.

Dale Neumann, 47, was convicted in the March 23, 2008, death of his daughter, Madeline, from undiagnosed diabetes. Prosecutors contended he should have rushed the girl to a hospital because she couldn't walk, talk, eat or drink. Instead, Madeline died on the floor of the family's rural Weston home as people surrounded her and prayed. Someone called 911 when she stopped breathing.

(snip)

Neumann, who once studied to be a Pentecostal minister, testified Thursday that he believed God would heal his daughter and he never expected her to die. God promises in the Bible to heal, he said.

"If I go to the doctor, I am putting the doctor before God," Neumann testified. "I am not believing what he said he would do."

Agreed. If I recall, the apostle Luke was a physician.

And Paul said a little wine was good for you. If one looks in the Bible about healing most of it takes place pretty quick they did not pray for days for someone. If taking someone to the doctor is a lack of faith the Jesus had a lack of faith when he prayed three time for the cup to pass him.

And if I put on my coat to ward off the freezing weather, I’m putting the coat before God, who should be trusted to keep me warm.

I don’t know that that attitude is any better than his.

Poor teaching in all manner of groups and particularly in RELIGIOUS groups can lead to all manner of hideousness.

St Paul spoke of doctors as helpful. Luke was a Dr.

I can understand the father’s convictions. However, when prayer is obviously not moving the hand of God redemptively in a clearly healing fashion—THE LOVING THING TO DO IS CALL IN THE DOC.

However, given OThuga’s DEPOPULATION program ready for the big time . . . Docs will increasingly simply not be available. Prayer will become the only option for millions. The number of authentic healings will likely skyrocket.

When God is OUR ONLY OPTION . . . the contingencies are changed.

"if you don’t believe, then quit pretending you can make sense of those who do."

Apparently a nine person jury couldn't make sense of it either.

I can talk about what I wish.
This father, through his ignorance and inaction killed his daughter.
End of story.

Religious persecution is nothing new. I would not have done what he did, but if he was sincere, he had every right to do it. God gave him the child, the state did not.

You sound like that's supposed to be new information.

You sound like that's supposed to be some significant sort of information.

You sound like you think one of my goals is to win a popularity contest.

FWIW, I usually don't care enormously what silly uninformed folks with narrow, haughty, myopic, rigid perspectives think of me.

I particularly don't care much about what folks think or feel toward me--who spitefully put inaccurate, untrue words in my fingers. Thankfully, they will inexorably reap what they have sown.
