Never underestimate the ability of a tiny fringe group of losers to ruin everything.
For the last couple of weeks, we've all been laughing heartily at the wacky antics of the "birthers" -- the far-right goofballs who claim Barack Obama wasn't really born in Hawaii and therefore the job of president goes to the runner-up, former Miss California Carrie Prejean.
Also, when Obama was sworn in as president, he forgot to give his answer in the form of a question.
And yet, every week, the chorus of conservatives demanding to see his birth certificate grows. It's like they're the Cambridge police, Obama's in his house -- the White House -- and they need to see some ID.
And there's nothing anyone can do to convince these folks. You could hand them, in person, the original birth certificate and have a video of Obama emerging from the womb with Don Ho singing in the background ... and they still wouldn't believe it.
Which raises the question: Why, in this country, is it always the religious right that won't take anything on faith?
So far, the reaction from Democrats is to laugh this off, and I understand why. If you seriously believe that President Obama is an African sleeper spy, get out of your chat room and have your house tested for lead.

Maher is not funny, not particularly talented, and, frankly, ugly. His even having a TV show, albeit with a wildly misrpresentative title and based on a pretense of non-conformist thinking that it never exhibited, can only have occurred in a communications structure that no longer exists. He is part of the media that is dying and this mindless and factually not well based attack laden with insults illustrates what is best about the death of the MSM and the futility of their attempt to prevent the rest of us from even being able to seek the truth.

“Far-right goofballs” ???? Is he referring the same goofballs that exposed the Dan Rather memos as a forgery. or the same goofballs that exposed John F. Kerry’s fake Vietnam war record? Is this the same goofballs that on a daily basis exposes the media mis-truths and outright lies? Does not Maher and the media understand that dissing the blogosphere actually invigorates the blogosphere. I guess they still havent learned that lesson. But I can see why Maher and the democRATS are fighting back. they know that Obama is a fraud. Either the media knew but didnt report it and what they didnt know, they didnt bother to explore. This would ruin the media, except Fox News.
Regardless of all the gratutious stupidity sprinkled througout this article undeserving of any discussion, this is exactly the reason why those who think this controversy discredits the GOP. Would Maher, a hardcore socialist, really want to kill this story if he truly felt it was a fallacy or if it weakened the Republicans? Obviously, no. Unlike the 9/11 truther “theory”, is the idea that Obama, who had a very unusual childhood that he refuses to discuss or release any of his other records, was not actually born in the USA that far-fetched?

The thing that no one is saying but it scares the hell out of the democrats. If we get it and it proves him to be a natural born citizen, we’ve still won because we will have managed to force his hand.
Then, we force him to release other documents from his past.
Bush and Cheney were publicly and repeatedly accused of arranging the death of over 3000 humans on September 11th. (Crickets) Obama is accused of hiding his birth certificate and suddenly it’s the end of the world as we know it.
Mr Maher is wrong. If a certified original birth certificate is produced it would end this question. Problem is, for some reason they don’t want to produce it.
The nutjobs on the right are the birther’s best friends.

No, little turdball. This statement shows your own stunning ignorance and blogger-level groupthink. The “birthers” (of which I am one only to the extent of seeing one of many other towers of lies from this admin) would like nothing more than to resolve the issue and get on with their lives. The original BC would end the controversy on the spot. And we don’t have it.
As long as a million or so dollars has been spent in litigation trying to hide it, it’s an undeniable conundrum why it hasn’t been produced.
I am so tired of this description of conservatives. We are all not the "religous-right". I personally am not what you would call a "typical" conservative or at least what the stereotype would dictate.
It's funny...I have found much diversity in the conservative community where as Liberals? They are all the same in their beliefs.
It would be at least, as Joe Farah has pointed out, the logical starting point. We would, of course, want to know who phoned in the information on it or how otherwise it was made up and would want to know that it was forensically sound as a document.
I like to see stuff like this printed. Just makes people who are capable of reading think there may be something to it.
No need to worry about the ones that can’t read they are too busy admiring the “great leader”
No matter what position you take on this issue, I think we can all agree, Bill Maher is an idiot.
