“...to protect at-risk woodland creatures...”

What? Is this a joke? Aren’t coyotes supposed to eat “woodland creatures”?

too bad it isn’t true. I wonder if coyote fur is as good as wolf fur at lining parkas.

Oh, nuts, this one IS satire. And I was looking forward to getting some popcorn and watching PETA and the ASPCA duke it out.

"What? Is this a joke? Aren’t coyotes supposed to eat “woodland creatures”?"

Yep. It's worked that way for thousands of years. I guess enviro kooks can't stand the thought of poor little mice, bunnies, squirrels and the occasional deer being on the bottom of the food chain. So they feel they have to do something about those evil hunters, no matter how many feet they have.

"They are in fur season."

No they aren't. Fur season begins at the end of November depending on where you live. It's when they have their full winter coat.

I have a den of coyotes on my property, and they have never bothered any of my animals. Now raccoons... that’s different. Coyotes eat rats, mice, snakes, skunks and other varmits. I love my coyotes

The poster asked if the coyote furs were as good as wolf. I said they are in fur season, which as you point out begins in November and runs until the last of January. Where do you think that the high quality coyote furs go to? A big part of them from this area are exported into Canada and the Yukon for native use, especially parkas.

They also eat livestock. We are down to 1 goat now. Coyotes have killed the rest of our herd of 15 since January.

The problem is that the stupid goats tear holes in the best of fencing to get at tasty green grub on the other side of the fence. As soon as they do, the coyotes attack.

In North America, coyotes are spreading into territory they never inhabited due to the extinction of the wolf. Often considered a denizen of the south west, they now exist all they way into Maine.
