'I can't afford to eat healthily' says £600-a-month benefits woman who weighs 22 stone (UK)
Daily Mail ^

A 25-year-old unemployed woman who was given an £8,000 operation to help her lose 16 stone is complaining because, as well as her weight loss, her benefits have been reduced.

Laura Ripley, who has never worked, was given the operation on the NHS to help her slim down from 38 to 22 stone.

But the 25-year-old, who receives £600 a month in benefits, is unhappy because as a result of losing weight she can no longer claim disability allowance amounting to an extra £340 a month.

This, she says, means she cannot afford to eat healthily - causing her to pile the weight back on. 'I can't afford to buy WeightWatchers crisps and cereal bars any more so I eat Tesco's chocolate bars and packets of Space Invaders crisps, sometimes four of each a day', says Laura, who spends seven hours a day watching TV.

'People ask why I don't snack on an apple - they're cheap, but emotionally I don't always feel like an apple.'

The disability allowance money she used to receive was spent on gym workouts, healthy food and having her hair highlighted.

Damn! I thought I was a “large” guy...230 lb. She needs to loose almost as much as I weigh...big girl.

I think it can be more time consuming, but it also can be simple.

Scooping out some yogurt with a sliced banana takes 2 minutes.

Cooking some oatmeal takes 5 minutes

Scrambling some eggs with some sliced tomatoes takes 5 minutes.

Toasting a piece of whole wheat bread and putting low fat cream cheese on it takes 3 minutes.

Washing and peeling a carrot takes one minute.

Etc.

I think a $1 double cheese at McD’s is something like 380 calories. That’s not bad for one meal out of three, if you are dieting.

Yes, I know it has sat. fat and so forth, but you can lose weight on that for a meal.

Cheap foods: Carrots, lettuce, onions, most basic fruits and veggies in season (you have to be flexible), many canned vegetables, gallons of skim milk, large packs of high fiber cereal, eggs (you can skip the yolk if you like), big sacks of brown rice, flour for baking your own bread, various beans, big bags of oatmeal.

She was eating Weight Watchers prepared foods and can't be expected to cook her own food. After all, she has an unemployed boyfriend to support on her paltry £600-a-month benefits ($990), and without her extra disability £££, she is helpless. Helpless, I tell you!

Welfare State victim. She’s always been big, 25st (350#) at the age of 15. She really doesn’t have much hope because she is unlikely to break the hold that the gubmint has on her. She manipulates the gubmint with her largeness as they manipulate her with their largess.

Well, consider working for it tubby. The exertion of going to a job may well keep you from stuffing oreos into your pie hole.

Well, she certainly looks thin enough to work. I’ve worked with people who were much heavier than that & they did their jobs just fine.

Maybe her benefits should be cut off & force her away from the TV and her “crisps”

I wonder if the little women that orbit her girth are also on the dole?

That made me think "gas giant" and then I lost my appetite!

No worries, mate!

She’ll ‘forget’ to take the BC pills the NHS pressed on her - a common requirement for female gastric bypass patients in the States due to the sudden boost in fertility as they shed pounds.

She’ll soon be receiving England’s version of WIC and housing allowances to accommodate the little cherub growing inside.

I’ so angry at this ...
this ...
(spit)
WOMAN, I can hardly stand it. [rest of post redacted]
