Kennedy is making a final press for universal healthcare, from his sickbed

As Congress wrestles with legislation to give Americans access to quality care, which the Democrat worked toward for 46 years, the senator is sidelined with brain cancer, but not out of the game.

Faye Fiore and Noam N. Levey July 25, 2009

Reporting from Washington -- Ted Kennedy wakes up mornings in his house on Cape Cod to a packet of news clippings put together by his wife. If there's a hearing going on in Washington, he watches on his computer.

Five hundred miles away, Congress is wrestling with historic legislation to give every American access to quality healthcare. It is the moment the Massachusetts Democrat has worked toward for 46 years. But instead of marshaling the crowning achievement of his political career, he is sidelined, battling brain cancer.

"He has lived for this day when America would finally extend this right to every citizen. There's no doubt if he could, he would be here in the thick of this," Kennedy's son Patrick, a Democratic congressman from Rhode Island, said in a recent interview, sitting on a bench on the Capitol grounds with tears in his eyes.

But history's third longest-serving senator isn't out of the game yet. Exerting what influence he can from his sickbed, he advises his aides in Washington over the phone. He has made himself the poster child of what he calls "my life's cause," and is using his illness in a final press for universal health care.

Kennedy, 77, seems determined not to miss this. He has outlasted medical expectations since doctors diagnosed a malignant tumor last spring, and is not above expending every last bit of his political capital to deliver the bill he will be most remembered for.

Wish someone had the guts to propose a “Mary Jo Amendment” that required public service announcements on how we are required, by law, to report any cars that drive off bridges, with young women inside them!

Coming from a family who didn't write their own books (after the disaster that Caroline Kennedy was in her trial run campaign for a Senate appointment last year - the absolute verbal confusion she uttered - do you really believe she co-authored the two books on the Bill of Rights and the Right to Privacy? Ah, well... I'd say her “co-author” deserves 100% credit on those two books, just based on the incoherent ramblings the Caroline spewed when she was tasked with impressing people. With a mind like that in a collaborator - you must know you are doing all the heavy lifting.

Now it comes to this disastrous health care bill and Teddy is releasing stories that he is all over it. Yeah, right. Ted is phoning it in, if that, attempting to stay alive long enough to get some of the ceremonial glory that this piece of wreckage will get when it is signed.

12.Faye Fiore is a joke, but not a funny one. From the Media Research Center, December 13, 2006:

On Monday, in a story headlined “Pelosi Piques Public’s Interest,” Los Angeles Times reporter Faye Fiore portrayed Pelosi as not liberal but charismatic: “Only weeks ago, Republicans were doing their best in the heat of the campaign to paint Pelosi, 66, as a conservative’s nightmare — a San Francisco liberal out of touch with the American mainstream. But more recently, a poll measuring political charisma showed that she had ‘dramatically improved her standing’ with the public, sponsors of the survey said, with voters knowing her better and feeling warmer toward her.”

I wonder if Faye Fiore is related to Mark Fiore, political cartoonist and animator, who did his little turn furthering the MSM sneers about Palin in this little cartoon...

If Kennedy really wants to represent 0bamaCare properly, he would end all treatment and stop waisting valuable time and medication on himself.

0bama wants the old and seriously ill to stop being a burden on Amerika’s health care system.

I hope he lives another 20 years. He cannot vote in the Senate form his hospital bed.

Mass voters will surely put a relative in the seat.

Is there anything in the law to allow the ouster of an incapacitated (sp?) Senator or congressman?

OL......he is pushing for a system that would deny a regular citizen the same treatment that has actually kept this guy alive!

Of course the Lame Stream Media will not report that fact. They will only report the story on purely an emotional basis without the facts.

He is the poster child for hypocrite!!!

This man is going to spend his life’s last energy trying to see to it that, should you or I find ourselves in his position, we will never have access to the kind of treatment that he is receiving. We will be told to be quiet, take the Blue Pill, lie back, and die with “dignity”.

We’re not takin’ the Blue Pill, Mr. Cowardly Drunken Murderer.
