At picnic, First Dude mum on Palins' plans
Politico ^ | July 25, 2009 | Jonathan Martin

ANCHORAGE – With one day left until she steps down as Alaska governor, Sarah Palin retained an air of mystery about her future plans. And if husband and self-titled “First Dude” Todd Palin knew anything more, he wasn’t saying.

“We’ll play it by ear,” said Todd Palin in a brief interview alongside his black Dodge pick-up truck. “We’ll take a little breather and go from there.”

Gov. Palin, speaking for less than five minutes at a Saturday afternoon picnic here, paid tribute to the military and urged a few thousand people gathered in a downtown park to remember that their freedoms are protected by those who serve.

She spent much of the day under a tent, dishing out salmon burgers and hot dogs to the hundreds who waited in line for a glimpse at the governor and a free lunch.

While the outgoing governor was serving one of Alaska’s signature dishes, Todd Palin put their son Trigg on his shoulders and greeted a few supporters and chatted with some of the event’s volunteers. The picnic, replete with live music and children's games, is an annual affair for the governor but it took on the feel of a goodbye celebration ahead of Palin’s resignation.

Yet few here or anywhere else in the state know just what Palin is leaving state government for.

Todd Palin did say that Alaska would remain their home base and indicated that, despite the millions that may come their way after his wife leaves office, he had no plan to give up his blue-collar jobs.

“I’ll always be a fisherman, I’ll probably always be out working on the slope,” he said, alluding to his oilfields job in the state’s far-northern tier.

Looks like Jonathan Martin had to give up his chardonnay and brie this weekend and head out to the frontier. Poor guy.

Be yourself Todd.

Get in their faces, ignore the elites, and defend your wife and family when necessary.

Is everyone enjoying the way the media is obsessed with asking what Sarah is gonna do. Geez why the obsession, we will all find out when she reveals it. First all we have heard from the media is how she is finished, done, her career in politics is over, yet they all fly up there to cover a picnic. Sarah must enjoy watching these liberal media hacks crap their pants wondering what she is gonna do, she knows it, she is messing with their heads, it’s TOO funny!
These Elitists have never left their penthouses in Manhattan to see what real life looks like. I wonder if they can handle Alaska life for a few days. Norah O’Donnell couldn’t handle it, she grabbed a drink and bailed LOL. Now she can go back to DC and continue kissing the butt of Obama. I bet she felt bad leaving him

Sarah's going to get her book out, go on tour, give speeches and promote conservatie principles all over this country in the midst of the Obama administration disaster and gain great political capital in the process. Then she will support conservative candidates in 2010 and help them win, amassing much more political capital. She will then take all of that and make an awesome, stunning run for the Presidency in 2012.

I have no basis or anything to back this up...but I have a feeling Todd will back her, but would REALLY prefer to go back to his old life...IMHO...

I think a lot will depend on how much help she provides Congressional candidates in 2010. She needs to be wary of Dems, the media and RINO’s setting traps for her.

A good performance, and she’s the clear front runner in 2012. Otherwise, she has plenty of time for a run in 2016.

Exactly, she is very young. She has another 20+ years to run for President. I think her #1 priority right now is to help take back the House and Senate, once she does that, Obama is powerless. He can’t do anything, heck he doesn’t even have much support for his socialist agenda in his own party, imagine the Republicans taking back the House and Senate in 2010. Sarah will campaign for Conservatives, and help take this country back from the Marxists, then her future is wide open. She can have that under her belt, everyone will be grateful to her for working so hard for the Republican party, even though most of the party has deserted her

What old life? She got involved in small ways since they were married and he never discouraged her then. Fighting for what's right is part of who Sarah is and Todd knows that.

I don't know about the senate possibly the house. Rush has said that if Republicans have the majority in house or senate when the county continues to tank it will be republicans who'll be blamed. Makes sense to me...the impeached one got credit for what the republican majority did during his years in the WH.

Rush also said he thought Sarah's resignation was a brilliant move. Along with the republican party only did well when the conservatives were in control.

Pretty much what I said, isn’t it?

Don't underestimate the evil that is behind the 0bama presidency.

Soros money (to name one of many) and ACORN vote fraud stealing elections without anyone seriously preventing or questioning them.

And the minority voters, blindly following their messiah, in the hope that he will take care of them so that they need do nothing but vote for him, and all their wishes will be granted.

No ‘SB’. Always remember that he is only the puppet. And his puppet masters are quite powerful, and dangerously evil.

Oh, I’ve seen all the evil from the Obama Presidency. I’ve seen it in spades. All I have to do is see what is happening to this country every day and how we are slowly becoming Venezuela to see what evil does when it takes over. Obama and his cronies are the personification of evil.

I reckon so. She’s in more than $500,000 worth of muck so far.

And she hasn’t even gotten out of second gear yet.

Yeah, it can be pretty discouraging at times.

Governor Palin has a lot of guts to put up with the horrible things that have been thrown at her.

God bless her and give her the strength to defeat her enemies!
