Liz Cheney is taking some heat today for, amid a discussion on Larry King Live of the fringe movement that doubts Obama's citizenship, appearing to defend it.
"People are fundamentally uncomfortable, and they're fundamentally increasingly uncomfortable with an American president who seems to be afraid to defend America," she said "The kind of thing you saw on this video is indicative of sort of a general feeling of discomfort."
"She refuses to say, 'This is ludicrous,' because she actually wants to encourage these people to believe this," Democratic consultant James Carville shot back on CNN.
I asked Cheney about the subject, and she emailed:
I don't have any question about Barack Obama's right to be President of the United States.
My concern is with his policies. I am deeply troubled about the path he is taking this country down -- massively expanding the size of government, weakening our national defenses, increasing taxes on all Americans and nationalizing health care. These are dangerous policies for the nation.
The video that triggered the question:
I don’t care if he was born in
Albuquerque or Algeria.
I want to know and Americans must know
conclusively that he’s legally and Constitutionally
eligible to be CIC.
And if there is an inadvertent electoral
loophole, federal or state, through which
he weasled in, that actions will be taken
to CLOSE THAT LOOPHOLE FOREVER,
for the protection and good of all Americans
and the survival and sovereignty of this
great country.

Well, here’s how it would work..., if you’re a conservative and you have ever said anything about the birth certificate issue, those leftists are going to know about it. And then, let’s say you’re giving some reasoned points on some legislation being pushed by Obama...
If it starts sounding too good or they can’t counter it — then it’s time to shift over to the “Obama birth certificate issue” — and the leftists will be the ones who raise it.
Then they try to paint that person *as* one of those who believes that Obama is not qualified to be President, because he has not shown a proper birth certificate.
At that point, they’ve just gotten you off your points in regards to Obama’s legislation that you’re trying to get out to the public and over into whether you think that Obama is qualified to be President or not.
The public sees and hears this, they forget all about the points you were making on the legislation that Obama is pushing and now the public thinks the whole issue was about whether Obama is qualified to be President or not.
The leftists love to get the conservatives over into that topic, because it means that this particular conservative can’t talk about the legislation that he originally wanted to talk about.
That’s how it works...
And that’s why the leftists are loving the Obama Birth Certificate Issue as a good issue for them to beat on and divert any conversation away from something else.
I don’t give a crap what the lefties do.
You said — I dont give a crap what the lefties do.

You should, because they seem to be in control of things in the government right now...
You fight them on their terms if you like. I fight on mine.
No, I don’t want to fight them on their terms, regarding the birther issue... I would rather fight them on my terms, of the Marxist/Socialist policies and legislation that is coming out...
It is foolish to hinge the fate of this war on the enemies ability to forge documents, and the medias ability to push the marxist PR. This issue should be used for agit-prop and nothing more (or less). Agitating the population is necessary to moving them out of their “rut” and opening them to more “extreme” solutions, but the real reasons for the war should never be overshadowed by the tactics and PR used to achieve those goals.
Use this issue for what it is, but refrain from getting “caught up” in it as your “defining” issue.
Always works for you since you are a troll.
Exactly Star. That’s what all this is about. If he is legit, which I doubt, how about proving it like everyone else has had to.
walk, chew gum

The reason why everyone on Free Republic likes this definition of a troll is that it works for everybody... LOL...
The perfect definition for everyone... :-)

Oh..., I’m not talking about your capabilities in doing that. I’m saying that the public shifts its focus over to the birther issue, as the leftists raise it — whenever someone bring up legitimate reasons to oppose Obama.
The leftist make the public hear “birther issue” — instead of reasoned opposition to Obama.
So, you’re abilities are intact... but the public hears something else...
They are responding to Rush and Lou Dobbs and the officer/freeper story. We make them respond in panic.
You said — They are responding to Rush and Lou Dobbs and the officer/freeper story. We make them respond in panic.
—
Well..., that’s the whole point that I’m making... because what you’re labeling as panic, I’m saying is a developing strategy that the leftists are actually glad to use for their benefit...
It is panic, not benefit. They do not want to even mention this story. Some gal at a Florida paper broke the ice with her serious coverage of the officer/freeper. And Rush and Lou have forced their hand. I repeat, they do NOT want this to get a life, but it is too late. Hence their panic attack today and yesterday.
Well, you say it’s panic and I see it as a developing strategy. And it’s not you or I who will make it be “one or the other” — but it’s the public who will make it to be so — on the *basis* of how they “react” to this issue.
And if I figure right, it’s not about your enthusiasm or my enthusiasm (about state laws) — but — it’s all about the mass of the voting public and what they will perceive...
I don’t care. We push on. It is now a raging debate across the media. Right where it needs to be.
Its not so much about “picking battles”.
Its about who fights which battle and who uses what tactics and PR methods.
The issue of zero’s BC seems to generate a significant amount of agitation among certain demographics. Its significant in the respect that those demographics exist in very high numbers in states that we should be targeting for state sovereignty measures. Those demographics are also the folks who we will depend on to support some of the more “extreme” measures the states will need to take to decouple themselves from this out of control fedgov.
Its perfectly legit and necessary to get the population worked up and in an agitated state. Things like this work perfectly for that task, but not EVERYONE in the ranks of our cause should be actively engaged in this type of PR. I think right now we have a good balance (for this issue at least) but I see a danger of it going a bit too mainstream, and therefore seriously degrading its effectiveness over the long haul. If the media wants to push it, we should be pulling back from it.. at least until the media moves on to other “hot spots”, it can always be picked back up again.
My 93 year old DEMOCRAT grandmother thinks he’s Kenyan!
Kenya just show us the birth certificate already?
