Detroit on the Brink: what 50 straight years of Democrat rule has done to a once great city
The Collins Report ^ | July 22, 2009 | Kevin "Coach" Collins

Posted on 07/22/2009 6:04:10 AM PDT by jmaroneps37

Detroit’s death spiral began with Coleman Young’s failed administration.

From 1974 until he left in 1994 Detroit became the quintessential liberal Democrat city. It offered nothing but high crime and low prospects and accelerated White middle class flight.

When the under skilled and overmatched Kwame Kilpatrick was carted off to prison the Motor City virtually ceased to exist. Now after 50 years of inept Democrat political hack administrations Detroit is among the worst places in live in America.

For the past three years FBI statistics have shown Detroit is the murder capital of the nation. Per capita it is more dangerous than Baghdad. Even the outgoing fired Police Chief went home to find his house ransacked by burglars. There are neighborhoods in the city so desolate “the police haven’t patrolled [them] in years.”

The situation in the city they call “Motown” is such that a huge section has been described as “30 square blocks of urban prairie.”

Detroit’s poor condition and decimation is hard to imagine.

These facts paint the picture of what 50 years of Democrats has brought

There are over 16, 000 foreclosed homes in the city, many of which have been taken over by squatters much as could be expected in the old West’s ghost towns.

In January Detroit’s unemployment hit 22.2%!

Even before the full destructive force of Barack Obama’s Marxist policies have been felt, a Detroit real estate agent reported selling a house for a single dollar. He had at least four more $1.00 homes, 1228 houses for sale at under $10,000 and 209 of them under $1,000!

The median selling price of a house in Detroit has tumbled from $66,000 to $5,800 since 2002.

Fifty years of swallowing Democrat lies has gotten Detroiters ever increasing misery. Now they must take responsibility for their votes.

Amazing:
Detroit schools haven't ordered new textbooks in 19 years. Students have reported having to bring their own toilet paper. Teachers have reported bringing hammers to class for protection. Declining enrollment has forced 67 school closures since 2005 (more than a quarter of the city's schools). The graduation rate is 24.9 percent, the lowest of any large school district in the country....
We all know it's bad in Detroit, but I had no idea just how bad.

Detroit and St. Louis both - once the muscle of Midwest industry. So sad.

Does Detroit have a new airport? I flew through that airport a few years ago and thought I was in the old Soviet Union, the place was so dirty and decrepit. Shortly after that, the Wall Street Journal rated the Detroit airport the worst in the nation.

The real gem in that article was the anecdote about the guy who tried to turn himself in to the police to answer for a murder charge — and got so frustrated by their lack of cooperation that he traveled to Toledo and turned himself in there instead.

Detroit started its decline with the 47 riots, recovered a bit in the 50's, and then with the election of liberal democrat Jerry Cavanaugh rapidly declined into the Detroit we've known since the Coleman Young years. The 1967 12th Street riots were on Cavanaugh's watch, and Detroit has not recovered from them. A moderate democrat replaced him for one term, and Coleman Young won. We've had mayors since Coleman Young who have ranged from mediocre (Dennis Archer - he tried) to poor (Kwame Kilpatrick) but the City Council here is a joke and has been as bad as Coleman Young for years.

The 67's riots happened, many of the whites left immediately (and started before that), Coleman Young won, most of the rest left outside of the city workers under the residency clause, some elderly, and some poor whites in places like Delray and Brightmoor which could not afford to move. The black middle class largely moved to Southfield during the same period. While the white flight is mostly done with the end of the residency clause, the black flight is still going.

I can't blame them. Detroit won't change until its voters change and elect new leadership at all levels.

The "old new" terminal which opened in 2002(NWA, Delta, International) is very nice. The "new new" terminal (everything else) which opened fall 2008 is fine, but not up to the spiffy standards of the "old new" terminal. I'm not sure if they are keeping the "old old" terminal standing for use for movies or not. It certainly is a period piece - 1957! Security is usually fast. One of my favorite things about the "old new" terminal is the light tunnel between the main terminal and mid-field terminal.

I tried to post a link to picture, but it didn't work. Lots of videos of it on YouTube: Detroit Metro Light Tunnel It's actually a very relaxing experience walking through this.

Detroit Metro has been rebuilt, outside of Detroit. It is owned by Wayne County.

Now Detroit City Airport, which is in Detroit, Colman A.Young Clintoned that area so much, the pics on this thread must be from that neighborhood.

Suprised that they can still fly from that airport.

The planes still wake me up in Warren.

Nobody will say it, so here it is: The so-called democrat party is one of the most vile mass murder movements in human history. It has murdered more people and destroyed more lives than Hitler and his fascist party.

Don’t believe it? Start counting the number of babies the democrats have aborted and then continue on to all the families it’s destroyed in liberal cities.

The democrat party needs to be outlawed as the party of treason and its leaders hanged for mass murder and sedition.

Highland Park,MI at one point, many, many years ago was an affluent suburb of Detroit. It went to hell quickly with Detroit after the riots in 68.

I grew up in the western suburbs of Detroit and crossing 5 Points Rd on the Redford/Detroit border was like crossing into another universe. Things start looking real bad real quick. I took a buddy from Minnesota into Detroit and that was the first thing he remarked - how crappy and torn up Detroit was and how nice the suburbs are in comparison.

They just opened up two new air terminals and tore down the old ones. The old ones were crap but the new ones are state of the art. Ed McNamara, the Wayne Co Executive, helped get them built. He had a political machine that produced Mayor Kwame and Granholm. McNamara was like teflon and got things done. His proteges - not so much.

My dad lived in Livonia during the 67 riots and told me stories of all of the men in his neighborhood sitting out on their front porches with their hunting rifles and shot guns waiting for the “rioters” to come and try and loot the neighborhood. The authorities also banned the sale of alcohol in the area so my grandfather went to Howell to get beer and liquor.

The news media in Detroit now calls the 67 riots an “uprising” and completely downplay the destructive effect they had on the area. The riots + Coleman Young = the death of Detroit. Kwame was like Detroit going to hospice.

"I can't recall the last time the GOP offered a serious conservative candidate for election in any of our major cities.

And nowadays, eerily reminiscent of the flight to the suburbs, the GOP is abandoning all of America in favor of "globalism".

So yes, unless the GOP stops electing multinational corporate lobbyists, this is what all of America will look like."

There is no point in running a conservative GOP candidate in most of America's cities because they can't win. The populations of these cities are mostly black or insanely leftist/liberal. They hate the conservative message because it goes against everything they believe in (welfare, give-me Gov. handouts etc.) or offends their "lifestyle" choices (drug use, homosexuality, promiscuity, unrestrained personal behavior, bizarre multi-culturalism etc).

And you're also correct about GOP support of "globalism." The GOP bears much responsibility in America's cultural, economic and industrial decline due to its promotion and promulgation of globalism and "free trade."

Well, I was only 4, but remember my Dad and his fishing buddy, going to Port Huron to get beer.

He said that was the best beer ever!!!

Also he went and got a shotgun after the riot.
