None of Mr. Obama's ancestors lived under slavery in North America. The first of Mr. Obama's paternal ancestors to leave Kenya was Mr. Obama's own father, who left in the mid-20th century, about 100 years after slavery had been abolished in the United States.
Several of Mr. Obama's maternal ancestors owned slaves. Mr. Obama's slave-owning ancestors include George Washington Overall (number 110, above, husband of Mrs. Louisiana Duvall Overall and father-in-law of the Christopher Columbus Clark mentioned above) and Mrs. Mary Grable Duvall (number 223, above, mother of Mrs. Louisiana Duvall Overall and grandmother-in-law of Christopher Columbus Clark), both of whom are enumerated in the 1850 Federal Census as slave owners. George Washington Overall is also enumerated in the 1860 Federal Census as a slave owner. Other slave-owning ancestors of Mr. Obama include John P. From what I have been able to collaborate elsewhere, the research on this site is really quite good and, as far as I can see, the authors have no political axe to grind or agenda to promote.
You seem to be bashing the Mormons too unless you don't consider Mormonism an organized religion. Moral relativism is flawed.
Don't ask. I asked the same thing and went to their defense (although I am a non-Mormon lawyer) and ended up getting permanently banned from the Religion Forum: then, when I, without looking, accidentally dared to reply to a ping (which happened to be from a religous thread, got suspended from FR for over a week and threatened with permanent suspension entirely from FR if I dared post to the Religous forum again. So, ever since then I have been somewhat wary of posting to the Mormon-hating bigots here -- or getting into discussions about that great religion.
