NRA shies from all-out fight on Sotomayor

The National Rifle Association (NRA), one of the most powerful lobbies in Washington, has come out against Sonia Sotomayor but conservatives question whether it will flex all of its muscle to oppose the Supreme Court nominee.

Leaders of the gun owners’ rights group issued a strong statement against Sotomayor Friday but they have declined to say how much a vote for the nominee would affect lawmakers’ ratings.

It’s a forgone conclusion that she will be confirmed. The Republicans lack the cojones (Ask a wise Latina for a translation) to stop her. Thus one day, NRA lawyers will be arguing cases in front of her. There’s no value having her more pissed off at the NRA than she already is.

Au contraire. GOA did a fine job of stabbing Fred Thompson in the back during the primaries - and they did it all on their own. Maybe it didn't matter much in the grand scheme of things, but GOA's nonsensical claims that Fred voted "for gun control" ended up being used by Huckabee.

Where did I criticize the NRA? That’s right, I didn’t. I’m actually a member and plan to renew. I simply suggested an alternative for those who have a problem with the NRA. I’d rather people be involved in some pro-2A organization than none. Get a grip.

The NRA is smart enough to not waste capital on Sotmayor. It is a forgone conclusion that the Dhims will confirm her no matter what. Fight the fights you can win, not the ones you lose in vain.
