NRA shies from all-out fight on Sotomayor
THE HILL ^ | 07/18/09 | Alexander Bolton

The National Rifle Association (NRA), one of the most powerful lobbies in Washington, has come out against Sonia Sotomayor but conservatives question whether it will flex all of its muscle to oppose the Supreme Court nominee.

Leaders of the gun owners’ rights group issued a strong statement against Sotomayor Friday but they have declined to say how much a vote for the nominee would affect lawmakers’ ratings.

“It’s an important vote and will count,” said Andrew Arulanandam, an NRA spokesman...

Why not? There’s nothing left to lose at this point.

NRA: THIS IS A PASS/FAIL TEST.

DO NOT FAIL.

DO NOT PASS CONGRESSTRAITORS WHO FAIL.

THAT IS ALL.

If the NRA won’t fight this nomination, they will have lost my support forever. Sotomayor has already announced to the world that she does not see an individual right in the Second Amendment, and she does not believe that self defense is an appropriate reason to possess a firearm.

What more do you need to know?

It’s time to take back the country.

Obama and Judge Sonia had already thrown down the race card. I don’t really think that anything the NRA does can stop her being confirmed but the doofuses in the Senate. The GOPers are all facinated with Judge Sonia’s “compelling” life story. Besides, Ruth Buzzi and Roseanne Barr on the same Supreme Court bench could provide for some hilarious moments in Supreme Court history. Kind of like daytime court TV on a national scale.

It's a done deal.
Sonia could perform a late term abortion on the Senate floor and still be confirmed.

She is a liberal. She is replacing a liberal. She has the same political background of the judge she is replacing. If she were replacing a conservative judge, that would be another thing. Since she is a going to be confirmed no matter what the NRA says, then why waste ammo on her. The NRA is keeping their powder dry for the next next liberal that might be replacing a conservative one that believes in the Second Amendment.

The NRA is in the back pocket of Judiciary Committee Member and turncoat Republican, Arlene Sphincter.

Or is it the other way around. I always get that phrase mixed up.

Anyway, they probably don't want to antagonize their fiend....errrr....friend.

I talked with people at my gun club. Most will not renew their NRA memberships unless the NRA comes out FORCEFULLY against Sotomayor. The NRA is becoming a RINO organization.

—displaying their stupidity—how much good does “forcefully” do when she will be confirmed abut 75-25?

Your gun club needs to start thinking more.

The NRA has a reservoir of goodwill they can use to fight for gun rights. Every action they take uses up some of that goodwill. They need to save their efforts for a fight we can win. If they fight Sotomayor and lose, they are permanently weakened.

The smart thing to do is to realize that Sotomayor does not change the balance of the Heller court. Therefore we focus our efforts on incorporation and get that one under our belt before Obama has a chance to change the balance of the court.

Once we have incorporation and Heller, the Supremes are not going to reverse themselves for at least half a century, if then.

What’s the point? Defeat Sotomoron and you get Elena Kagan or someone else with a brain who can convince Anthony Kennedy to side with Ted Olsen and David Boies on “gay marriage”, among other pivotal cases. Sotomoron can’t convince anyone of anything. She should have been a traffic court judge, and is totally out of her league and the other justices know it.

Seriously this Sotomayor has been shooting up with insulin for 47 years. A lot of that time was "back in the day" when the insulin wasn't all that high quality.

Which is neither here nor there provided she was always perfect in taking her blood sugar measurements, and making sure she wasn't injecting bacteria and viruses.

Recently she's shown signs of a type of brittle bone syndrome that occurs to many long-term insulin users. Walking across the floor in an air terminal she BROKE HER ANKLE.

That's symptomatic of the condition.

I give her 6 months to a year and she'll be outta' the USSC for good.

There's really not a lot of reasons for wasting all your political capital opposing her. Save it up for the next one.

True - but she is strange with very ugly baggage and she lied about everything she ever said or written.

I cannot see her as a Supreme Court judge. She is a gimick.

They will fight it, but how much money should they really spend for what is a foregone conclusion?

The NRA remains globalist, and will not fight a globalist appointee, no matter how bad their gun record is. (Souter, Bryer, Ginsburg)
