Ron Paul attacks Sarah Palin as 'country club' Republican
American Thinker ^ | 7/18/2009 | Thomas Lifson

What to make of Ron Paul? The word erratic comes to mind. On domestic spending, he is a righteous guardian of small government, while on foreign affairs he is a dangerous isolationist who believes the world will leave us alone if we just tend to our own knitting. And as far as Sarah Palin and her supporters go, he is a space cadet, apparently.

An interview with Politico published today contains this startling assertion from Paul:

'As for soon-to-be departing Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, Paul dismisses her supporters as "more establishment, conventional Country-Club type of Republicans."'

This is odd indeed, detached from reality as it is. Sarah Palin is about as far from a country club Republican as one can find. And Texas sources indicate:

And if you were to check the membership rolls of the Lake Jackson Country Club here in Texas, I'd bet real money that you would find the names of Ron Paul and his wife Carol listed as lifetime members.

The assertion of The Pauls belonging to this country club is supported by other bloggers as well. Representative Paul (also an OB/GYN, by the way) should address the question of his alleged country club membership, if he is going to throw around this label.

Could it be that Ron Paul is jealous of Sarah Palin's popular support?

“Country club Republican” is an expression, most often negatively intended, used to describe certain members of the United States Republican Party.

"Country Club Republicans" AKA "Rockefeller Republicans" "Blue Blood Republicans"

Tend to be wealthy and liberal on social issues. e.g. Colin Powell

the original "Contry Club Republican"

Go back to your shrimp boats, Ron. Leave the fishing for bigger fish to those who know how.

Worse still, he adds, Palinites are partisans: “If Obama was the only one who was guilty, they would be on his case all the time, but there is a lot of partisanship and I am probably less partisan and therefore she is going to appeal to partisan Republicans better.”

Ummm, yeah, Ron, that would be about right. Yep.

(What was it he just said?)

Simple, Bunning is part of the current RINO goof troop that represents us on Capitol Hill

You want the definition of a RINO you have it in Bunning.

Along with that, the man is a moron.

When you have a chance at a young fresh conservative voice that understands Constituional Principles, you decide to vote for the discredited RINO who has been part of the problem for the GOP this decade.

You keep voting for RINOs. I’ll keep donating to conservatives

“nutbar”? Your idea of debating is namecalling, and you think you have the upper hand?

It ain't name-calling when it is an accurate assessment, nutbar.

The article was in fact very derogatroy of RP, as I stated.

Easy enough target.

Why don’t you do a little reading (try the US Constitution), and then get back to us once you have learned something, OK? ...good

I do love the Paultard view of the world - their hero is the only one who understands the Constitution (except for that little part about earmarks for wild shrimp not being mentioned anywhere in that document).

I've read it plenty of times, nutbar. Paul takes it and warps it when it suits him. He's little different in that regard from many other pols.

Peace.

Bite me.

Many Conservative Republicans are fed up with the Tea Parties as the Paulites have hijacked them and handing out flyers to films supporting 9/11 Truthers just as Michael Moore and the far left.

Cindy Sheehan supported L Ron Paul both anti war and
haters of Israel.

Okay what am I missing here, he just submitted 33 million in earmarks for his district in one of the budget bills..... how is that being a guardian of small government? I have someone from another thread telling me it doesn't matter because the money will go somewhere else if not to Paul's district... this IMHO is what is wrong with our entire system of government -- something tells me Sarah wouldn't defend this sort of thing -- maybe I'm wrong...... but she is the woman who sold the state jet after all.

Oh, but don’t you know, Ron Paul just submits them, his people in his district want him to, however he doesn’t support them at all...

Obviously, he’s the only true Republican isn’t he. You can tell the true Republicans, they’re the ones who don’t support the Republican candidate.

Paul may be a little jealous now that so much grassroots support is heading Palin’s way, but I think he has looked around, and seen that the best way to get great coverage by the MSM is to trash Palin and her supporters. You can bet that every major MSM outlet will now run with his statement, giving him lots of positive press.

OK all you Palin supporters out there. Let’s all start by listing the number of country clubs we belong to. I’ll go first:

0

The term 'country club' is a misnomer in the phrase (for the record, 2 for me), Country Club Republican is someone who is fiscally Conservative but socially liberal (ie, abortion and marriage). On those two issues, I would love to see Paul even attempt to be worthy to lick Palin's boots. On abortion, Paul is 100% leave it up to the states. On marriage, Paul has made the statement that it shouldn't be a government recognized institution in the first place, again, not a traditional Conservative position.
