Ron Paul attacks Sarah Palin as 'country club' Republican
American Thinker ^ | 7/18/2009 | Thomas Lifson

What to make of Ron Paul? The word erratic comes to mind. On domestic spending, he is a righteous guardian of small government, while on foreign affairs he is a dangerous isolationist who believes the world will leave us alone if we just tend to our own knitting. And as far as Sarah Palin and her supporters go, he is a space cadet, apparently.

An interview with Politico published today contains this startling assertion from Paul:

'As for soon-to-be departing Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, Paul dismisses her supporters as "more establishment, conventional Country-Club type of Republicans."'

This is odd indeed, detached from reality as it is. Sarah Palin is about as far from a country club Republican as one can find. And Texas sources indicate:

And if you were to check the membership rolls of the Lake Jackson Country Club here in Texas, I'd bet real money that you would find the names of Ron Paul and his wife Carol listed as lifetime members.

The assertion of The Pauls belonging to this country club is supported by other bloggers as well. Representative Paul (also an OB/GYN, by the way) should address the question of his alleged country club membership, if he is going to throw around this label.

Could it be that Ron Paul is jealous of Sarah Palin's popular support?

very few threads go to 500 anymore

100+ so far.

Funny thing is nobody's really defending Paul on this. What could he mean by "country club"? What could he possibly mean?

BTW, here is the original interview. Here's a quote to chew on:

"I wonder whether she's energizing the 15-20 year olds," Paul muses. "That would be a question I would have. Because she doesn't talk about the Federal Reserve and some of these issues. She doesn't talk too much about personal liberties, civil liberties, getting rid of drug laws, attacking the war on drugs, punishing people who torture."

Worse still, he adds, Palinites are partisans: “If Obama was the only one who was guilty, they would be on his case all the time, but there is a lot of partisanship and I am probably less partisan and therefore she is going to appeal to partisan Republicans better.”

He’s probably referring to those who are big on all these unconstitutional, non-defensive wars.

Mark Levin said that the Iraq War was a declared war. I happen to agree with Levin. Read the resolution. It called for the use of armed forces against Iraq.

I believe defination number one for the word "war" is an armed conflict against a country and you can look that up.

About Iraq being a non-defensive war, one could argue it either way. However once we were in Iraq, it became apparent that Al Qaeda was also in Iraq. But that didn't mater to Ron Paul. Paul wanted us to retreat from Iraq anyway, even though Al Qaeda was involved in Iraq.

I believe there is no defense of Ron Paul's cut and run against Al Qaeda, position.

Ron Paul is a very good on many issues that I agree with.

For the sake of Ron Paul’s self-respect, as well as for that of more than 99% of Palin critics, don’t bring to light the fact that none of them have ever been able to produce a substantive claim against her.

Crybabies.

Paul is a fool for taking Politico's bait. This is all about driving a wedge among conservatives to fracture Palin.

I believe so.

Paul's statement is designed to extract Paul's supporters form any potential Palin 2012 run.

Then Levin was wrong. Congress gave the president the power to use military force against Iraq. Congress does NOT have the power to usurp the Constitution however. What they did was unconstitutional in that Congress and Congress alone has the power to declare war. Al-Qaeda was in Iraq just like they’re in just about every country on earth. Saddam might have even been in league with them to some extent. But why would he be? Maybe because we went to war to kick him out of Kuwait - now, how exactly was the first Gulf War a defensive war?

Sarah’s doing just fine thank you. She’s drawing out the democRATS, Rinos and twerps like Ron Paul to criticize her. Why? Because they know she has what it takes to energize the country ala Reagan, and bring the country back. Way to go Sarah!!!

Okay, Ron. Follow the nice nurse to the ECT room and then we’ll get you started on some therapeutic crafts. (No sharp instruments, though).

I have never been to a country club, EVER.

I've been a few times, but am not a member of one. The first time was when I was in high school. A friend's father got us tickets to a day at the Magnolia Classic, a PGA event that's usually held during the same week as the Masters. We ditched school and enjoyed a lovely sunny day walking the course.

The only other times I've been to a country club was as a guest at lunch with a friend, once, and other times, as a guest at some function or the other held at the location.

A 'country clubber', I'm certainly not. Don't know what in the heck Ron Paul is thinking.

So we should retreat against Al Qaeda in Iraq? How can you justify that?

Every time that frootloop opens his mouth, he slips further and further from credibility and reality.

And his grasp on both are tenuous at the best of times.

Ron Paul attacks Sarah Palin as 'country club' Republican

I don't belong to a country club, I suspect most Palin supporters don't belong to a country and Sarah doesn't belong to a country club but I really have to wonder...

Why the hell does some government official who claims to be a libertarian think that he has any govermental busy impugning people who go to country clubs??

And he’s proven himself how? I’m sticking with Bunning, who has proven himself beyond saying the right things, thank you very much.

Honestly, the blind faith of the Paulestineans never ceases to amaze me.
