Sad that he must die, but he lived a long life and served a noble cause.
Rest in Peace, Mr. Allington.
Saddest is how the world will pay little or no attention to anothr Heroes passing while they heap such lavish praise on ones like Michael Jackson or Walter Cronkite.

Another link with history lost today. When I was a kid in the early 1950's the last Civil War veterans died, now the Civil War is as remote as the Revolutionary War. The WWII veterans are melting away around us. The past vanishes from living memory.

I remember watching the video that someone had posted to this site of him talking a little on WW1. Different times, then. Judging from the amount of people, I think he will have many, many people at his funeral to see him off.

Wow, 113! RIP, he deserves it.

What an amazing life. Rest in peace.
Not many of those soldiers left. I think America only has Frank Buckles left. Popular history outlets like the history channel should spend more time on the Great War.

For perspective, he would have been old enough to remember Queen Victoria’s funeral.

my maternal grandfather fought with BlackJack both chasing Villa and in France
He loved it.....he had a real zeal for war and adventure at an early age and even though he experienced really tough things he never lost his perspective about
lol...but he did like his whiskey
ran off to join Pershing in NM with his horse skills after shooting a law man over a girl at the train tracks in Mize Miss in 1916...he was 17, died in 1982
