No one has ever come close to this man. He was the last of the greats who transformed the way that America, and the world, received their daily news. He was in favor of giving the American people what they needed to know, not what they wanted to hear.

Along with Cronkite, tonight I’ll raise a toast to:

John Chancellor
Chet Huntley
David Brinkley
Edward R. Murrow

I hope that the posers who currently hold the anchor chairs at all the networks reflect on just how pathetically they measure up to these giants.

And for the venom-spitters here: Shame on all of you. Shame.

No, shame on you for your immense lack of understanding.

Your post moved me to tears.

Oh wait, that was the smoke from the celebratory cigar getting into my eye. Never mind.

Shame on me. Shame, shame on me.

Not surprising coming from an obvious troll and rabid Palin hater. I can't believe you haven't been zotted yet, but you lay pretty low between the insults you throw at people.

Here, kitty, kitty...

He was in favor of giving the American people what they needed to know,

He was in favor of giving the American people what he wanted them to "know".

His lies about the Tet Offensive contributed to the untimely death of millions of people across Southeast Asia.

To the fools here: Shame on all of you. Shame.

What were his qualifications to decide waht the American people needed to know?

I assume you also mean he could decide what they didn't need to know.

The man was a nickel-plated 100% traitor who started the tradition of spinning the news to match his anti-American agenda. He handed the war to the enemy (we were winning) and is responsible for millions of deaths, thousands of them being American GIs, and the resulting instability in that part of the world.

He deserves venom spit. And p!ss on his grave.

Folks are telling us about your post...

There's only one problem, Cronkite never did measured up to John Chancellor, Chet Huntley, David Brinkley - much less Edward R. Murrow.

Sorry to have to say...

A screen name that bashes the U.S. military.

A tagline that bashes Sarah Palin.

Praise for a deceptive, anti-American windbag who was, at the very least, a significant contributor to our loss in Vietnam.

Bashing and flaming Vietnam Veteran FReepers who were personally harmed by Cronkite’s pro-Vietcong/NVA lies.

A history of pro-socialist, anti-conservative, anti-American posts.

Could you be any more of a troll?

Go back to Kos and cry. I bet you were crying like a baby when your beloved Saddam Hussein died, too.

Oh, and you forgot a name on your hero-worship list. Walter Duranty, the piece of garbage who helped cover up Stalin’s genocidal extermination of millions. You people all love that guy - both guys. You people all love Duranty and Stalin.
