Poll: Majority of Republicans don't think Palin's qualified for prez Posted: 11:53 AM ET
(CNN) A majority of Americans think Sarah Palin is stepping down as Alaska's governor for political reasons, according to a new national poll, with a majority of Republicans now saying that they do not believe that Palin would be an effective president.
Only 33 percent of Republicans questioned in a CBS News survey released Monday night say that Palin would have the ability to serve effectively as president. Last fall, 71 percent of registered Republicans felt that way.
"It's unclear whether the change in Republicans' view of Palin is the result of her decision to step down as governor, or whether the GOP rank-and-file felt they had to defend their party's vice-presidential nominee during the campaign but don't feel the same tug of party loyalty today," said CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. "Either way, this is bad news for Palin, whose first task in 2012, if she runs for the White House, will be to convince Republican primary voters to support her."
Fifty-two percent of all respondents in the CBS survey said that Palin is resigning because she thinks its better for her political career, with one in four agreeing with Palin's comments that her resignation would benefit Alaska. Most Democrats and independents feel Palin's resignation is politically motivated, while Republicans appear divided, with 36 percent indicating the move is to advance her political career and 31 percent agreeing with Palin's explanation.
"That's another indication that Palin may face a skeptical GOP primary audience if she chooses to run for president," Holland says.

Hmm, could CNN and CBS be lying?

You betcha Sarah Palin is still a viable presidential candidate! Even though the governor of Alaska dropped the bombshell last week that she was leaving her post, a new USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds that her support among Republicans is still strong. In fact, her resignation seems to have even slightly boosted her among GOP constituents.
According to the nationwide poll, close to 67% of Republicans want Palin to be “a major national political figure” in the future. And 71% of them say they would likely vote for her if she ran for president in 2012.
Thanks, SolidWood. Mittens’ Minions are putting in some serious overtime, this A.M. ;)
See-B.S. polls.
HAH!!!
She’s better qualified than the one we have now......and don’t believe this crap for a minute.......the libs are grasping at straws.....scared out of their wits and I’m lovin’ every minute of it.
Results like this aren’t all that hard to understand. Spend a week or two driving home the idea that Palin quit and is now over as a candidate and a certain percentage believe it. If Palin goes toe to toe with the libs, rinos and the media, you will see a swing the other way.
I agree 100% with what you are saying.
Could add a lot more after a lot of phone conversations but for now I will just second your comments.
Where did she say that? I don't read that in her resignation speech. She quit so she would have more freedom to fight, she never mentioned taking her family out of the spotlight. Everything I read into what she is saying, she is working to progress conservative causes which will make the perfect platform to run for President in 2012.
See post #72 for polls showing the exact opposite of the C-BS bullcrap push poll.
Exactly. The degree of expressed open-mindedness to her is really quite striking. It is her turn now, and she has a couple of years to build her case.
So less than half of those who say they likely vote for her think she is qualified??? It really makes no sense. I would love to hear how the question was posed. Probably spent two minutes bashing Palin before asking the question.
Reagan couldn’t get 50% of Republicans in his first run for President. Sarah’s got time.
“I fell into the “identity politics” crowd. I was/ and still am, very intrigued by how much like me Sarah is. I think she would be a great President, and I, for one really hope she runs.”
I think alot of us agree with you on identifying with her. I’ve been following her on Twitter and listening TO HER. I listened to her radio interview (TG for the Freeper who broke it up into 5 parts; made it so much easier for us still on dialup) over the weekend. This woman has her act together.
What a stinking, steaming, smelly, soft and squishy pile of male bovine manure.
That's exactly right. The problems it reveals are no surprise. Since 1912 the Republican Party has been divided between conservatives and progressives. To the extent Sarah Palin comes out as a leader of the conservative wing of the party, the progressive wing will join the Dems in ridiculing her as a dangerous lightweight. That's what they always do and it has an impact, as this poll suggests.
They learned the trick with Harding (who would have been a great President if he had lived long enough). Coolidge got the same treatment. To hear Hoover and the other GOP progressives tell it, Hoover was a poker obsessed, dipsomaniac libertine and Coolidge was a narrow minded, yokel with the personality of a pickle and the intelligence of a cucumber. Eisenhower was a dunce (even though he wasn't particularly conservative) and Reagan was a bumbling idiot. It's always the same story. Enter Sarah, stage right.
The lesson of history are that conservatives have to weather the insults and that they can. Sarah's OpEd on cap and trade is a good start. That's exactly the sort of thing she has to do — stay in view saying sensible things and saying them well. If she does she can easily make herself into the natural leader of the conservative wing of the GOP.
In 2012, conservatives are the only constituency likely to matter. Neither Republicans nor the country are likely to be interested in a low contrast candidate if Obama continues to tank.
Basic humanness.
These people want to actually go out and socialize in their off time,
and they are ostracized if they dont have an elitist attitude and worldview.

The one thing that gets my goat about the liberal “elitist” attitude is that it is so uneducated. No understanding of western philosophy, economics, politics or history that hasn’t been filtered through obfuscating leftists. Yet it is called “elite” when it is the view of the masses.
I’m a Palin fan. She is unquestionably more qualified to be President than the current occupant of that office.
That said, is she the best choice of the Republican/Conservatives can make for the 2012 election run?
Too soon to tell.
I’d vote for her anyway.
I DO NOT believe ‘anything’ CBS has to say or report. I haven’t watch anything on CBS except Sports for 4 years.
CBS consist of delusional people in their little distorted and manipulative world. People are fed up with the liberal dribble from the mainstream media, whose sole purpose has become pushing theirs and Obama’s radical leftist agenda, and tearing down Sarah rather than doing actual journalism.
Things would be going better for CBS and CNN if they reported just the news instead of trying so hard to be part of it.
Keep in mind the so-called Republicans Communist Broadcast System polled are probably nearly 97% east coasters who vote rat in the GE. I’ve given my analysis on this before and the left/left-center can mumble about Cuda all they want-—there is NO ONE who can beat her straight up in the majority GOP primaries. Mittens can pick off a few east coast common wealths and Huckster can probably hold his home state-—but who beats Sarah out west, southwest, southeast, midwest, pacific?????
