Official: Iran Ready if Israel Attacks

Iran is ready to take "real and decisive" action if Israel attacks its nuclear facilities, a senior Iranian parliamentary official says.

The remarks by Alaeddin Broujerdi, the head of Iran's parliamentary committee on national security and foreign policy, came after US Vice President Joe Biden signalled that Washington would not try to prevent any such Israeli assault.

"Both the US and Israel are aware of the consequence of an erroneous decision," Broujerdi told reporters at the Iranian Embassy in Tokyo on Monday.

"I believe our response will be real and decisive," Broujerdi said. He declined to elaborate.

Israel fears Iran is developing nuclear weapons to target the Jewish state. Iran denies it is pursuing an atomic arsenal, saying it only wants to produce nuclear power.

Israel's government has said it would prefer to see Iran's nuclear program stopped through diplomacy but that it could not rule out a military strike.

In an interview on ABC's This Week program on Sunday, Biden was asked whether the US would stand in the way if Israel - viewing the prospect of an Iranian nuclear bomb as a threat to the existence of the Jewish state - decided to launch a military attack.

"Look, we cannot dictate to another sovereign nation what they can and cannot do," he said.

Broujerdi also defended a recent crackdown on protesters following Iran's presidential election.

Opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi has said the June 12 election, in which incumbent President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was declared winner, was illegitimate and marred with fraud.

Riots and protests have followed, although Iran's restrictions on media coverage have made it difficult to confirm some reports.

Broujerdi said Iranian police had merely acted to restore order and accused Mousavi of instigating the protests.

"There is no confusion. It is (now) a totally peaceful situation in Iran," he said. Broujerdi is visiting Japan as chairman of the Iran-Japan Parliamentary Friendship League.

The Guardian Council, Iran's top electoral oversight body, pronounced the election results valid last week. Ahmadinejad is set to be sworn in later this month for a second four-year term.

No nation can be prepared for the Hammer that
is about to fall. Iran has no idea “WHO” they
are taking on. They will know the meaning
of “Shock and Awe”!

“Iran is ready to take “real and decisive” action if Israel attacks its nuclear facilities”

This should be Iran is ready to take “a real ass kicking” when Israel attacks its’ nuclear facilities.

Let’s all hope Israel completely knocks out the facilities that “O” is backing.

First of all Biden should have kept his mouth shut. I don’t think Netanyahu is in a political position to make the first move against Iran. This country isn’t going to support Israel except possibly passively if it does make the first move...and I don’t think the mullahs are crazy enough to go beyond rhetoric...it’s Ali Khamenei that calls the shots, not Ahmadinejad...although I think AJ has come out stronger after all the recent debacle in Iran.

Irsrael can’t afford to wait. I did read where Saudi Arabia wouldn’t attack Israel if Israel flew over its country. Also, Iran is a threat to some other Arab countries.

Unless Iran already has nukes for the few missiles they have with enough range, there’s not much they can do. They may have a few SU-30s by now, but otherwise their air power is antiquated. There’s also the problem that Israeli pilots are some of the best in the world.

I think that Israel is just blowing smoke. An attack by Israel would cause major upsets in the whole region. If they did go ahead and attack and Obama just looks the other way, he should be impeached. The Israel hard-liners should tone down their retoric. They’re playing with fire. They might have a tremendous retaliatory capability but they could also be severely damaged by a missle response by Iran.

Biden has a big mouth and should take some lessons in statesmanship 101 or not opine. He should just stay home and work on his hair plugs.

When and if Israel attacks it will/should be decisive and overwhelming. Israel will probably only get one chance and they must totally decimate what their going after. If they don’t their going to be toast soon after!? imho!

“Saudi Arabia wouldn’t attack Israel if Israel flew over its country.”

Sorry for the delay in answering your post. You're partially correct, the Saudis offered their airspace to the Israelis’ if they attacked. I don't remember hearing Israel asking permission. This is a strange story though. I always thought the Saudis were backing Iran and their crazy nonsense. I guess, in the Middle East, keeping your friends close and your enemies closer is just a normal activity.
