[C]omparisons do a disservice to Reagan, who not only served two full terms as governor of California, but also spent decades studying the issues and immersing himself in conservative philosophy. His writings and radio commentaries make this abundantly clear. He proved people wrong because they objectively were wrong. This does not mean that whenever the media writes off or attacks a conservative politician that he or she is the next Reagan

to win and govern effectively you have to do more than "galvanize the party base" and "convince conservatives" -- you also have to convince independents and even some Democrats, as Reagan did [but] instead of going back to Alaska to gain more governing experience as many advised, Palin resigned after just two and a half years on the job. And theres nothing to indicate that she has the slightest interest in boning up on policy. Honestly, whats her incentive to study policy and do the boring task of governing? No matter what she does, her army of apologists will make excuses for her and lash out at those who dare to criticize her by accusing them of being liberal elitists who are threatened by her sheer awesomeness....
[N]one of this really matters if Palin intends to leave elective politics and become some sort of television or radio personality. My comments are only meant as a response to those who are still seriously suggesting her as a potential presidential candidate. Last October, an ABC/Washington Post poll found that only 35 percent of Americans thought Palin was qualified enough to be president, yet now her boosters expect us to believe that an additional nine months in office is all she needed to assauge Americans' concerns, allowing her to resign and prepare for a presidential run.

That seems to be the pattern so far.
Pretty much.
It is insanity.
I think there are many good qualities with Governor Palin. I simply haven’t seen proof that she has the ability to be a viable President.
Does she have a role? Yea I think she does, I hope she finds it and plays it well.
From what I have seen of her thus far, do I want her on another national ticket? No
I love the people who insult those who have an opinion, and then cry when the favor is returned. It’s like the nimrods who come on the Rush thread to flame. I expect a lot of that this week.
Me either - I think she is going to fill the vaccuum and lead on the grassroots level - she knows she draws thousands to her rallies/events and conservatives love her -she will lead a conservative movement a la the Reagan movement - whether she even runs for POTUS is still up in the air. If she starts moving and shaking down in the lower 48 to make an impact in 2010 which is the most significant thing coming up - I will certainly join in - I was never as involved as I am now. I got involved on 9/3/2008.
Isn’t that the problem though, the endless measuring up and comparisons? It is like a sports team that sees a cherished player retire, and the fans boo every misstep of his successors if they don’t do something the first guy woulda done easily.
Ted Williams retired 50 years ago, and every left-fielder since...Yaz, Rice, Greenwell, Ramierz...has been found to be lacking in one way or another.
I’d rather see a politician looking forward and building his, or her, own foundations.
enjoy yo obama.
Uh, ever hear of Gen. David Petraeus?
“No one who’s only held state wide office, especially with no federal government experience, or business success, should be a conservative candidate for President.”
Are you F’ng kidding me? Our problem today is that we have the same inside the beltway idiots year after year that don’t care about us as much as they do their own career. We need LOTS more candidates that don’t hve federal experience. What’s the quote, something like, people go to DC to change it, but DC ends up changing them.
Well said, all we’re missing is the leader.
I like how you brought the irrelevance that is Palin's appearance into this and then acted shocked when I called attention to how sexist and crude it was.
"The point is why are gays so hostile toward the new Reagan? Stay on topic please. So. Is Klein gay?"
I like how you brought up a topic completely unrelated to the original subject of the thread, then started scolding people who tried to get it back on track for being off-topic.
Go start a vanity thread if you want to talk about Palin and gays.
The idea that Sarah Palin is somehow compariable to Reagan on any level is ridiculous.
Reagan was a political heavyweight. Palin is a political lightlight. End of story.
“No one who’s only held state wide office, especially with no federal government experience, or business success, should be a conservative candidate for President.”
Yeah we need more federal experience like that of Cornyn and KBHutchison so we can spend ourselves into debt and give up credibility on fiscal matters.
BTW, welcome to FR
“What she DOES have, in spades, is an army of like-minded enthusiasts.”
Yeah well, IMO that’s not saying much.... so does Ron Paul.
Having been on the receiving end...I wholeheartedly agree with the statement above....”No matter what she does, her army of apologists will make excuses for her and lash out at those who dare to criticize her”
I am not willing to ignore her position on comprehensive immigration reform. I didn’t ignore it for McCain, Romney or Thompson and Palin won’t get a pass from me either.
Benefit of the doubt isn't a concept they can't understand.
The dem/liberal chorus called Reagan an “amiable dunce” if I recall, in spite of the so-called homework he did.
Face it now, they will say whatever it takes to try degrade Palin because they are scared to death of her.
Let em howl, scream, whatever.
deeptrout
I’m still not voting for Romney.
People disagree with me? Now I see the error of my ways!
Obama has, what, a 58% approval rating?
If having "a whole lot of people" holding an opinion=validation, then we should all be getting behind the Zero.
Bumping your very well-put post, John. Thank you.
