[C]omparisons do a disservice to Reagan, who not only served two full terms as governor of California, but also spent decades studying the issues and immersing himself in conservative philosophy. His writings and radio commentaries make this abundantly clear. He proved people wrong because they objectively were wrong. This does not mean that whenever the media writes off or attacks a conservative politician that he or she is the next Reagan

to win and govern effectively you have to do more than "galvanize the party base" and "convince conservatives" -- you also have to convince independents and even some Democrats, as Reagan did [but] instead of going back to Alaska to gain more governing experience as many advised, Palin resigned after just two and a half years on the job. And theres nothing to indicate that she has the slightest interest in boning up on policy. Honestly, whats her incentive to study policy and do the boring task of governing? No matter what she does, her army of apologists will make excuses for her and lash out at those who dare to criticize her by accusing them of being liberal elitists who are threatened by her sheer awesomeness....
[N]one of this really matters if Palin intends to leave elective politics and become some sort of television or radio personality. My comments are only meant as a response to those who are still seriously suggesting her as a potential presidential candidate. Last October, an ABC/Washington Post poll found that only 35 percent of Americans thought Palin was qualified enough to be president, yet now her boosters expect us to believe that an additional nine months in office is all she needed to assauge Americans' concerns, allowing her to resign and prepare for a presidential run.

Okay, let me give you an example. McCain's healthcare reform idea was a good one, and it was decidedly in harmony with conservative principles. I do not recall a single instance of Palin defending it or arguing for it persuasively.
She also utterly failed to attack Obama's healthcare plan.
While McCain hasn't been a solid conservative his whole career, his platform on economic policy in 2008 was no RINO's platform. There was plenty there for a conservative to like, and yet Palin failed miserably in arguing in favor of it.
Now to be fair, McCain was also pretty miserable in his ability to defend and argue persuasively in favor of his economic policy platform. I suspect that's because he didn't really believe in it.
However, the fact that McCain was a poor candidate doesn't make Palin a good one.
You think we are at War? We have troops in harms way, but we are definitely not at War. We haven't been at war since Japan surrendered, we have been fighting an enemy hiding behind a Kings X line, drawn by UN.
Just a word of advice. Lefty tactics are known and obvious. Add a little something to your FR page and calm down.
Calm down?
I’m perfectly calm and enjoying pointing out the lefty tactics.
But you do remind me a little of Peter Jennings after the 94 election advising the electorate that they had a “temper tantrum”, but would soon calm down.
Reagan did not quit the job. He didn’t resign. Sure I would have loved to have seen Reagan annihilate the Syrians and Iranians but we are not talking about policy here now are we.
Heck, judging from her reaction to frivolous law suits, if Palin had had Beirut happen to her she would have run out of the White House screaming about dead fish or something.
Reagan was shot in the chest and stayed.
Palin was peppered with frivolousness and shot herself in the foot.
Sarah Palin is a great American who needs to DIG IN AND FIGHT.
“Fact is, when someone resigns from office, that is called, quitting. Look it up.”
In a vaccum, yes, you would call it quitting. But indulge me and fast forward 16 months to the Nov 2010 mid terms. “Palin energizes base as Republicans gain seats in House and Senate, Obamunism stopped in its tracks”
She can’t do that now from where she sits. Which is in the nation’s interest as a whole? And is it quitting to lead a GOP comeback?
Simply your refusal to name whom you prefer, is sufficient. Sarah bashing here without an alternate candidate to support, is simply just that, Sarah Bashing.
You can spin it if you wish.
Palin knows exactly what she is doing.
She is a political outsider who has to adjust fire.
She is anything but a quitter. You will see that during the midterm election campaign. She could have stayed in Alaska and ended her political career...or she could leave and help our a GOP that is in chaos and rudderless.
She chose the tougher option and she will help the floundering GOP and take a shot at the Presidency perhaps.
Yep that is why it was done years ago, before Palin came along, right?
George Washington probably couldn't get more than .5% from today's voters.
The leftist scumbags will just continue to bounce on Palin every time she stands up and speaks out. Palin's resignation hands the liberal Democrats even more ammunition to use in their never ending attacks against her.
Great post.
But you just called Palin "a political lightlight." Why is the liberal establishment afraid of a "political lightlight?"
The leftist scumbags will just continue to bounce on Palin every time she stands up and speaks out.
Why? Because she's a "political lightlight?"
Sorry, but Palin has a long way to go. IMO, shes already seen the highest national poll numbers shell ever see.
The conservative movement has not yet found the right standard bearer who can be elected President.
Great post. The Palin cult worship here is a little disconcerting. I'm not convinced that she has what it takes to be the standard bearer...she has been Quayled in the public arena, and that is something she probably won't be able to recover from. Your last statement is the most true...the conservative movement has not yet found the right standard bearer who can be elected President.
They’re going to attack anyone we put up and go after them more viciously if they are threatening, as Sarah certainly is.
If we start picking our guys by who they’re going to attack less, we might as well nominate one of them. Oh, wait, we did that last time...
Maybe ‘quitter’ is the new ‘too old for office’...who knows?
So whatever gave you the impression she was leaving the party? If she doesn’t, would you still support her? I’m afraid that if she wanted to run for pres. any time soon, it would be too soon to win in a 3rd party! Now someday, however, it could happen.
There have, in times past, people who started political movements and parties. Some were very successful, some not. At this time, we may or may not have a country left to argue over! We may not have that luxury. I realize the Repub. and Dem. parties have their faults; but they are the only ones with clout at this time! Yes, even Repubs. still have some clout, not much, but some.
The liberal establishment doesn’t matter as much as it used to. You haven’t started voting Democrat have you?
Or have you?
If she can steer clear of Anthony Kennedy and especially Sandra Day O’Connor, she could out-match Reagan.
Being attacked is a given. There is no way that the MSM will permit a strong conservative to make it through a campaign without attacking him/her relentlessly. Therefore, the candidate must effectively deal with the attacks and soldier on.
Look, I offered a bit of friendly advice.
If you want to remain bitchy, please by all means do so.
You are not getting the message, but that’s up to you.
Have a nice day!
