KABUL — A young American soldier who walked off his remote combat outpost in a volatile region of eastern Afghanistan has been captured and is believed to be in the hands of the Taliban network headed by Sirajuddin Haqqani, American military officials said Thursday.

Large numbers of American and Afghan forces fanned out in eastern Afghanistan to shut down routes the kidnappers could use to transport the soldier, officials said. A senior American defense official said there had been no direct negotiations with the kidnappers but that American forces were reaching out to tribal leaders and local Afghan government officials for help. It was not clear when the soldier left the base. One official said he was found missing by other soldiers at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, while another said he was discovered missing during a routine morning formation on that day.

If he’s in the hands of the Taliban, I hope he’s strong in mind and heart.

If he joined them of his own volition, I’m going to be pretty p*ssed if any other soldiers die trying to resuce him!!

If they kill him, pull our guys back and carpet bomb the country into submission.

TV news made it sound as if he went out with no weapons or protection.

So is he a Muzlem convert?

And I agree . . . carpet bomb ‘em. We’ve lost too many great young men over in the Middle East and we’re not appreciated for what we have done, including all the aid we’ve given.

Wonder if the leftwing idiots are up in arms because they may “waterboard” him? It breaks my heart to think of one America’s finest in their filthy clutches.

NY Times reporter gets kidnapped by the Taliban? We must maintain absolute secrecy, for the reporter’s safety!

American Soldier gets kidnapped by Taliban? Why, let’s spread the news far and wide.

Does anything else need be said about the scum-buckets who claim to be “journalists”?

In a sane world....

We would select the HIGHEST ranking and most beloved terrorist prisoner in our hands - and declare he will die if the captured soldier is not released unharmed..

I’m sure that Amnesty International, the Arab Red Cross, the Peace not Bombs Babes, the U.N. and without doubt the Rev. Tutu and beloved Mandela will seek the release and avoid the video taped beheading.....

Right?

If not - I would release about 150 terrorist prisoners over the neighborhood where the soldier was captured — from about 5000 feet.

And in a sane world...the highest ranking and most beloved terrorist wouldn't be Commander in Chief.

I really don’t want to prejudge this, but if he left alone, it sounds very much like Wassef Ali Hassoun, the Marine who walked away from his post in Iraq, only to turn up in Lebanon.

Unfortunately, the Taliban will not be kind to him.

This soldier's future looks really bleak regardless. If he's with them involuntarily then all we can to is pray.

Well if this trooper gets harmed and we manage to capture those animals at least we'll be able to read them their rights.

I'm sure the Taliban are worried about being captured NOW.

I hope that publicizing this information doesn’t endanger the soldier, but I’m certain the NYT took that into consideration before they published it. After all, they aren’t a bunch of America hating liberal hypocrites or anything.
