Krauthammer: Palin isn’t a serious candidate for president
Hot Air ^ | July 01, 2009 | ALLAHPUNDIT

Oh yes, he went there. We’ve been having a running debate on Twitter this afternoon about Sarahcuda and my contention that criticism of her is verboten among righty blog readers, HA’s included. This thread will be an interesting test case. Most of the heat Kraut takes will be for his contention that “You cannot sustain a campaign of platitudes and clichés over a year and a half if you’re running for the presidency.” Didn’t Captain Hopenchange do exactly that? Well, yes and no. Granted, the most memorable line he uttered in 18 months on the trail was “Yes we can,” but he’s done countless policy interviews, debated Hillary 20 times and McCain three, and held numerous press conferences. The TOTUS jokes are fun but The One’s perfectly capable of straying off script when need be. Is Palin? She seems at ease when discussing energy or life issues but the jury’s still out on most everything else, which is why Kraut feels comfortable asserting that she hasn’t (yet) brushed up on national policy the way we all thought she would.

"Look at what they did today. 467,000 people loose their jobs and and it is good news because unemployment is only 9.5% instead of 9.6%"

I think your point is very well made, especially about FDR. I worry about that precedent as well.

Having said that, if unemployment spikes and then retreats, I still think that any unemployment at or approaching double digits is to "visceral" to be painted over by a Democrat/Obama friendly news media. No matter how it's spun, when at least 1 out of 5 homes in your neighborhood is suffering an unemployed wage-earner, that is felt in a very real way. No amount of sunshine blowing, on anyone's part or behalf, is going to lessen that much actual pain.

I hope I'm right, and you're just too pessimistic - or we are all screwed because we really won't make it through another four years (or longer) of this crap.

I hate to hear that. IMHO, she needs a little more than living next door to Russia to impress most Americans. OTOH, I like the fact she can kill and skin a moose.

parsy, who figures maybe she is fibbing about studying up.

Just letting you know that I appreciate your opinion. Don’t let the horde of ankle biters get to you.

I am not sure I can take another 4 days of this crap.

It wouldn't be so bad if the guy would just shut up, but everyday he is on TV and not a little bit he is on 2 -3 times a day.

EXACTLY my thoughts too. Further, Kraut is a neocon.

Not me. You don't get this kind of experience in Kansas.

Except when he says something you agree with, right? And what, exactly, does his handicap have to do with his brain?

More Romney-bots trying to clear the field. The sleaze from these people and their tools is unbelievable.

Krauthammer can’t walk and is lucky to have any work at all. His opinion is bogus.

Astonishing. Maybe you can make that your tagline. It is so insightful.

image at 148 (and 149!) - she doesn’t readily wrinkle. I honestly believe she doesn’t let too much bother her. No stress in her life, she’s not a worrying type which means her convictions are true.

I agree.

I like Sarah Palin a lot and think she has a definite place in any future conservative political movement.

But she is not Presidential material.

Conservatives will screw themselves again if they give in to the cult of personality and tie themsleves to her.

Re: Your humorous reference to Palin’s need to learn Austrian economics:

Like president obama, Palin needs to learn the Austrian language before she can understand its economics. I bet neither of them knows how to say “economics” in Austrian.

Lot’s of things for Palin to learn, like who the “important people” are. Like Krauthamer. Like Kathleen Parker, who is, in an unhinged sense, in love with and in awe of obama; but, more passionately, she’s jealous of Palin’s natural beauty and confidence.

Only, when/if Palin gets ugly and when she hob nobs with the likes of Brian Williams, only then will she be a serious candidate.

Essentially, the extreme left hates Palin’s guts because she is an accomplished American Christian. It’s mostly about abortion.
The far left thinks only an idiot would be, in fact, pro-life. For the life of them, they don’t get it.
So, she must be stupid.
Seems close-minded and arrogant to me; just amoral relativism in action.

Currently, the far left is emboldened by obama’s election, developing socialism, and wealth redistribution. Still, I’ve read, and it seems to me, lot’s of the greenies among us are not happy. Even their glee over an unwed pregnancy of one of a Palin’s daughters has waned.

Palin is happy.

Plus, they know Governor Palin is not stupid, so they lie; like her seeing Russia from her house. Saying Trig’s mother was Palin’s daughter. Unfairly editing her comments to couric or other “important people.” Free democrat huntin’ licenses for a family always in season. Vicious and revealing.

My opinion is that the non-stop venom from the leftist media and from rino-enablers reflects leftists’ fear of Palin and a scapegoat-search for Mac and his minions.

Bottom line: Palin is a threat.

She seems happy too.

Kraut said the same thing on the Special Report “All Star panel” last week. He’ll be eating his words when she wins the nomination.

Huh?

I don't think he'd be eating his words until she's elected President.

No, I think Dubya came to Washington with a reputation for running Texas well and he was touted as being able to work with both sides of the aisle. I think he beat Gore, although we may have had a general desire to move away from the incumbent party much like we also did in 2008. I would contrast that with 1980, when, although Carter was doing a pretty miserable job, Reagan offered a new agenda, not just an anti-Carter candidacy.

If Krauthammer truly believes what he says, then it is simply because he is uninformed and apparently sips from the Kool Aid pitcher on occasion.
