Sarah Palin trashed by members of John McCain's campaign team in Vanity Fair

BY Michael Saul DAILY NEWS POLITICAL CORRESPONDENT

Monday, June 29th 2009, 12:01 PM Grillo/AP

Alaska's lipstick-wearing pit-bull is a "Little Shop of Horrors."

That's how one longtime friend and campaign trail companion of John McCain, the vanquished 2008 GOP presidential nominee, described veep nominee Sarah Palin.

In an expansive story in the August edition of Vanity Fair, a slew of senior members of McCain's campaign team told reporter Todd S. Purdum that they suffer a kind of survivor's guilt following the 2008 presidential election.

"They can't quite believe that for two frantic months last fall, caught in a Bermuda Triangle of a campaign, they worked their tails off to try to elect as vice president of the United States someone who, by mid-October, they believed for certain was nowhere near ready for the job, and might never be," Vanity Fair reports.

During the campaign, there were reports of anonymous McCain aides describing Palin, the governor of Alaska, as a "diva" and a "whack job."

The Vanity Fair article recounts how strained Palin's relationship was with the McCain advisers. She maintained "only the barest level of civil discourse" with Tucker Eskew, the operative assigned to be her chief minder, the magazine reports.

She believed Steve Schmidt, McCain's top strategist, had lied to her about conducting polling in Alaska - that was a "belief she conveyed to anyone who would listen," the magazine reported.

Nah, you should construe the “change of subject” strategy to my post at #50.

“Senior campaign officials”?

Could Purdum be any more (intentionally) vague?

This was another test by the Left.

The “senior campaign officials” passed by not taking the bait.

You failed.

The leftists are Very afraid of Sarah Palin because she connects with the American taxpayer/proud citizen. NO ONE in the repub party or especially the dim party can connect like her. She is one of us. And she ought to be proud of just who is trashing her. You can tell a lot about a person’s character by who their enemies are. Palin’s biggest attackers are rinos, dimrats and the media. Cool by me.

It is clear that both RINOs and their handlers (demrats) fear Gov. Palin almost more than death.

I don’t know about other converservatives, but this conservative puts zero credence in stories underpinned by anonymous sources—whether they come from the right or left. As for Mr. McBipartisan, my only feeling for him is complete and utter contempt.

Gov. Palin is doing an excellent job in Alaska. Last I heard the state was fiscally sound. She is untainted by corruption, despite the best attempt by the Alaskan GOP to paint her otherwise. And the political and fiscal decisions she makes benefit the State of Alaska and all its citizens.

She is human and no doubt has flaws like all of us. But, based on what I’ve heard her say and her Alaska track record I’d say she’s as pure a politician and person as is out there today.

Isn’t it odd that if she was so unready to be VP, that the only BS her opponents (both Pubbie and Demrat) can muster is about her daughter being an unwed mother. Something, by the way, that RINOs and Leftists are otherwise quite comfortable with. Oh, and the they absolutely hated her decision to birth a baby with Down’s Syndrome. For RINOs and the Left, abortion was the preferred outcome.

Vanity Fair is a Democratic Party magazine. Remember, the publisher did special editions for Monica Lewinsky and Valerie Plame.

$$$$$

You can add the Clintons to that list.

” I shudder to think how big the vote for Obama could have been without Palin on the McCain ticket. In my book it could have been a 90%-10% margin. Until Sarah got on the ticket there was no way I was going to vote for McCain. And these McCain RINO’s know it.”

Count 2 Florida votes the same way. We didn’t vote for Johnny in the primary, and only voted for him because of Sarah.

I think this latest attack is Letterman payback, and also a premptive strike to cut off the news about the natural gas deal.

After all she will show that something can get done outside of Washington to help the US, and that we can develop alternative sources to oil by actually cutting deals with corporations.

Just returned from a 2 week visit to Alaska with numerous stops/cities.

Can guarantee you that the Alaskans ( refreshingly non political and straight talkers ) love her.

With Ensign/Sanford falling by the wayside, and Sarah not afraid to take on the MSM ( Letterman) they see her star rising and will go into full assault mode now to prevent her from any future post.

Imo, it is McCain who is the “diva”, as evidenced by this constant trashing of Gov Palin.

He and his staff did the EXACT same to GWB after he was beat in the 2000 primary.

They did their best to make life difficult for President Bush the first four years....and used their MSM friends to help.

Only because his bud Purdum allowed him to be an anonymous coward. Did you read this article at post #5 by muawiyah? Steve Schmidt, McCain Campaign Manager: Religion Could Kill The GOP. I bet Sarah told Schmidt what she thinks of his favorite group, the Log Cabin Republicans, and he's been out to get her since.

My recollection is that Palin has always been respectful and even complimentary of Hillary.

My, you’re a devout believer of this leftist propaganda.

They must see reactions such as your, shake their heads and say,”Wow, this is WAY too easy!”

that they suffer a kind of survivor's guilt following the 2008 presidential election.

I suspect they are survivors simply because they are anonymous. If they gave their names, they'd be toast.

Exactly. Folks inside took her down, the other side knew too much information too fast on her.

And look what I came across this a.m., evil:

It sounds like a bunch of Washington insiders failed to convert her into a Washington insider.

Yep. Couldn't they see that was what made her great?
