Alaska's lipstick-wearing pit-bull is a "Little Shop of Horrors."
That's how one longtime friend and campaign trail companion of John McCain, the vanquished 2008 GOP presidential nominee, described veep nominee Sarah Palin.
In an expansive story in the August edition of Vanity Fair, a slew of senior members of McCain's campaign team told reporter Todd S. Purdum that they suffer a kind of survivor's guilt following the 2008 presidential election.
"They can't quite believe that for two frantic months last fall, caught in a Bermuda Triangle of a campaign, they worked their tails off to try to elect as vice president of the United States someone who, by mid-October, they believed for certain was nowhere near ready for the job, and might never be," Vanity Fair reports.
During the campaign, there were reports of anonymous McCain aides describing Palin, the governor of Alaska, as a "diva" and a "whack job."
The Vanity Fair article recounts how strained Palin's relationship was with the McCain advisers. She maintained "only the barest level of civil discourse" with Tucker Eskew, the operative assigned to be her chief minder, the magazine reports.
She believed Steve Schmidt, McCain's top strategist, had lied to her about conducting polling in Alaska - that was a "belief she conveyed to anyone who would listen," the magazine reported.

Those pictures are most definitely worth 1,000 words! Great post.
Those pics tell it all...
Unless they are more vicious that one could think.
They may have thought that were going to lose but anyway those useless, clueless,RINOS (with McCAIN first)wanted to destroy conservatives for a long time
They can't.
Because the entire story is MADE-UP.
Not merely that. If he had gone to Washington to kick ass and take names on either side of the issue he would have picked up votes. Instead he suspended his campaign and ended up wandering aimlessly like an old man dropped off at the mall.
what can you expect as he realizes it was HER that got the votes they did, and not him.....
I shudder to think how big the vote for Obama could have been without Palin on the McCain ticket. In my book it could have been a 90%-10% margin. Until Sarah got on the ticket there was no way I was going to vote for McCain. And these McCain RINO’s know it.
Like I said, it could be made up, I have no problem believing that.
But if that’s the case, the senior campaign officials the story was made up about should be out there soon discrediting it.
McCain ping. Your buddy Cedric is here too defending McCain.
I think this points out how the Republicans plan on pulling defeat from the jaws of victory in 2010! The same geniuses that tell us the party should get more liberal, put up lousy candidates that agree with Dems on immigration, Cap and Trade, healthcare, and increased deficits and give the Dems (running more “Blue Dog” pseudo-conservatives) gains in both the House and the Senate....
hh
Yes indeed... both the republican left and the dim left.

The burden of proof is on the “journalists” making the claim.
And they’ve been found wanting (for 7 long months)!
I am not. Obviously, your rabid hatred has you blind.
Nonsense. If the journalist is lying, the people he is lying about need to come forward and say he is a liar.
When did you stop beating your spouse?
since Cedric’s here, maybe he can comment on Karl’s point regarding the pathetic “suspends campaign over TARP” strategy (was that Schmidt or McCain’s idea?). The description of McQueeg as “ended up wandering aimlessly like(?) an old man dropped off at the mall”. Priceless Karl.
Who are these people? Would they care to identify themselves? Vanity Fair has drifted far to the Left over the years.
Please, not even close.
The report claims senior campaign officials said bad things about Palin.
If not true than those senior campaign officials should say so.
Oh, McCain “campaign workers”, McCain’s campaign was dead, and Palin gave it the only spark of life. And great job you did with his campaign, folks! It couldn’t have been much worse.
It sounds like a bunch of Washington insiders failed to convert her into a Washington insider.
