But some of it was innuendo driven by hatred of communists (not that there's anything wrong with that, but it did distort some of the reportage). An Englishman, he was accused of concealing Jewish heritage by haters of the day. Suffice it to say, he had his hands on too many teenage girls, but times were somewhat different then, and lines were drawn between "good girls" and "hoydens." The girls he was chasing weren't exactly Sunday School teachers.
Just wow! I was just thinking this morning that the celebrity deaths usually come in threes. After the loss of Ed McMahon and Farrah Faucet I wondered who would be next.
I think I’m gonna knock off too.
I’m getting a little punchy, m’self.
I remember that night -- it happened late, after dark. So shocking. I called a "connected" friend in New York City, and other rock'n'roll friends from all over rang my phone throughout the night.
A lot of us heard it on Monday Night Football. Howard Cosell announced it.
How come learning more about humans than I already know is always at least 10:1 disappointing as I get older?
I agree 100%.
Yeah I’ve had enough vitriol for one night.
Creepy photo.
You need to study the meaning of the word “unique”, because you didn’t get it. It doesn’t mean “number one in your opinion”, or “better than Elvis, whom you personally prefer.” It doesn’t even have to mean “number one” in anyone’s opinion. Look it up.
I have thought the same thing many times, thats a job I would not want...
I’ve gotten how nasty posters at FR can be. Years ago it was just awful...I thought for a nenosecond it had changed. My mistake....
My sub on keyboards for one of the bands I play in recently got the Michael Jackson gig. He was in L.A. for rehearsals and the rehearsals were being extended and he wasn't able to come back to Atlanta to play gigs he had previously booked that I couldn't make...so we scrambled and it's turned out that I'll be able to do them.
This guy just canceled his life to go out on tour with MJ...it was a great paying gig and opportunity for him. POOF.
Count your blessings now, my friends.
But it was grammatically incorrect, modifying the "I" of his subject, which referred to himself, not the poster with the "MD" in his name. And the person who challenged it was being ironic. Or did you miss that?
I only liked Elvis' early stuff because first and foremost, I'm a Blues aficionado. Other than that, I was never an Elvis fan, and my point still stands. Michael Jackson never captured the hearts of women like Elvis did, and again that sets Elvis in a category apart from Jackson. Most thinking people understand that. I'm not sure why you don't.
Before mine as well -- all I've heard are recordings, and I must be the only lover of Italian opera alive who doesn't really care that much for Caruso, even taking into account the poor technology of the recordings in that era. I was no great fan of the much-touted Mario Lanza, either. Domingo and Carreras? Just OK with me. Some people set a lot of store by Josh Groban, in terms of vocal quality (not repertoire). Nope.
There was only one Pavarotti.
I’m not sure why you’re arguing about it since it was fairly obvious to anyone, with a little bit of common sense, what he was saying. Don’t know what to tell you other than that.
What about David Carradine - doesn’t that make 4 “celebs” dead in recent days.
My question is, why don't the mods smack down some of these jerks? I know that several people were reporting FTL all evening. The rules of "Please: NO profanity, NO personal attacks, NO racism or violence in posts" are printed on every post window. He was not only personally insulting other posters with baseless and vitriolic judgments all night, but he has the UNFORTUNATE habit of EMPHASIZING all his emotional ejaculations with CAPITALS. That's rude anywhere on the Net.
I agree with NautiNurse; he is most probably a recycled Banned FReeper. I can think of a few.
When OJ Simpson dies are people not supposed to talk about the murders and just talk about what a great football player he was and his movie career?
OJ was also found not-guilty..
But MJ has a gazillion gay fans. During his molestation trial, they were there in force. Everyday. Sobbing and fainting at the mere sight of him.
