I like Bocelli, but for the connoisseur of opera, there is truly no comparison to Pavarotti. I have also recently seen a promising youngish male opera singer, Salvatore Licitra, who has performed at the Met and La Scala and is being called "the new Pavarotti." To me, Licitra's voice exceeds Bocelli by far; in fact, if you had never heard Pavarotti, you would say Licitra's is the best voice ever. But Pavarotti was singular, unique, head and shoulders above and beyond.
Just as there was a long gap between Caruso and Pavarotti, I doubt that Pavarotti will be equalled any time soon. He had an astonishing gift. Both times I saw him live, he was having an off day; even on his off days, his vocal quality was so extraordinarily beautiful and bel canto that any lapses in timing or nervousness (one time I saw him perform for Ronald and Nancy Reagan at Ford's Theatre and he was sweating and trembling) were nothing in comparison to that voice.
What kind of person goes around “hoping” that children are abused like you do?

Agree with you on Pavarotti. A voice like his only comes around once in a generation, if that. I have heard good things about Licitra. There is just something about Bocelli that I can’t explain. Maybe the fact that he is blind and has such an amazing voice. As for Enrico Caruso, he was a little bit before my time lol

You don’t have to be old to be wise. :) Having a degree in History helps. It doesn’t help with much else, though.
There are a lot of other interesting sidelights on this thread -- people have made lists of other artists they consider major, they have commented on the political fallout from media using the death to deflect attention from Congress' commie antics, they have mentioned nostalgia for the activities they were doing when the MJ albums came out, etc. Lots of good conversations to be had without even remotely being "ga-ga". I just posted a bunch of stuff about opera and male tenors in that realm.
Be calm and know that no one thinks child molestation should be excused, or even that Jackson should have been acquitted if he was guilty. We're mostly just here because of the music, and the best of it came out when he was 20 to 25, before the children thing became public knowledge.
They're carrying out the law, and I believe God oversees governments, allowing them to rise and fall through history.
Jurors are there to administer justice, and courts are set up to give them the opportunity.
It's the purview of the government, not of loudmouthed no-nothings on an Internet board who haven't examined the evidence at close range.

As an MD, I find it fascinating that you don’t understand that Mr. Jackson specialized in targeting BAD PARENTS so he could get access to kids. Are those people out there? Yes. And they are like many of you on here - totally star-struck with Mr. Jackson.

I would leave my kids with George Strait. There was never a hint that he is anything but a stand-up guy.
