Gov. Mark Sanford admitted to having an affair with a woman from Argentina at a much anticipated Tuesday afternoon press conference. Sanford said he and his wife are trying to work through this. Sanford called himself selfish. Gov. Sanford is also chairman of the GOP Governors' Association. He said he will tender his resignation.

I suppose you could consider that AWOL but lots of politicians take vacations. Hopefully, the Lt. Governor could have handled it if something had gone wrong. The fact that he left his children on a Father’s Day to chase some babe makes me question his judgment even more than not making proper provisions for taking time off.
Gawd, I hope not. I would reconsider my time spent/wasted here.

Not Making Proper Provisions for taking time off?
Really?
The man ditched his Security Detail, bagged one of their vans so he could sneak away to get his car, snuck off to the Atlanta Airport, then took off IN SECRET TO ARGENTINA!!!!! The Man is a sitting Governor for Gods sake! Yes, of course, the Lt Governor SHOULD be able to handle a situation if one arises IF HE KNOWS THE GOVERNOR IS OUT OF THE FRIGGING COUNTRY! Even Sanford’s Security Detail had no idea where he was.
Yes, I consider what he did was going AWOL. This was no Vacation!
Couldn’t he have just waited until he was President?
The GOP will continually be hung with the hypocritical petard as long as they are hypocrites.
I hope you are prepared for permanent Democrat majorities, then.
You mean the ethic that says people are supposed to be faithful to their wives?
Sanford is the biggest idiot on the planet. Thank God he outted himself before he became a serious contender.
As someone who's always been lukewarm on Mark Sanford, let me be the first to say, I'll support impeaching him when the Dems retroactively convict Slick Willie of impeachment. Until then, Sanford should be allowed to stick around for the rest of his term. No double standards for RAT politicians!
But he likes to pork.
Whatever political party or religious group you belong to, I want no parts of it.
Apparently, voters in the country want no part a GOP that is an extension of someone's church.
Then again, wasn't there someone who said something along the lines of, "let he who is without sin, cast the first stone?"
There is a reason church and politics are separated.
I am so sick and disgusted that this pathetic person is putting decent, slaughtered Iranians in the SHADOWS.
“Then why respond?”
To let you know that I couldn’t care less about your opinion and to hopefully irritate a self righteous busybody. It’s unfortunate that your husband/wife cheated on you, but dont take it out on me.
In the SHADOWS with their tails between their legs. And now Obama is sardonically laughing as he skates on his accountability of the slaughter in Iran.
Integrity, honesty, and faithfulness to your wife and kids is a "Puritan ethic" is it? Tell me, What "ethic" would you prefer?
You sound like you believe
“All have sined and fallen short of the Glory of God” and
“He who says he is without sin is a liar”
Because conservatives want their national leaders to be faithful to their wives?
PLEASE.
No, because evangelicals have asserted their church beliefs onto the party.
I do not condone adultery, but why do people who are not even in in South Carolina line to beat this guy, along with Democrats?
There have only been two perfect men. One fell from grace, the other was murdered.
And today, we hold candidates to such a high standard, none can attain it and Democrats hold control.
Let voters in South Carolina and Sanford’s wife deal with this, as it should be.
In the mean time, worry about your own spirituality and leave others to theirs.
But, as long as evangelicals make such demands on our candidates, all will fall short and Democrats will continue to win elections, while Republicans sit idly by condemning and judging everybody they can.
We need to differentiate between our faith, if any, and poltical office.
As long as we allow the Democrats to play us like a cheap fiddle, we will be out of power and they will hold power.
Yes, I think all fall short and none can attain the perfection they place on GOP Candidates. It doesn’t mean I condone it, but it doesn’t mean I’m ready for the tar and feathers yet, either.
Above all, I’m tired of people seeing the Republican Party as an extension of their church and condemning fellow Republicans, banishing strong candidates from office when we need them in office.
All we do is put more Democrats in power.
