I think it is a matter of time before there is a divorce. Didn’t think he seemed very happy the last few times I saw him on TV and now we know why. He can just fade away after his term if he completes the term.

He should have been able to wait until he was out of office before having an affair knowing how people would react.

His staff and his wife knew he was leaving. It is no one elses business.

Actually....as a "representative" of the people of his state....it is their business. And as a person that has dipped his toe into National Politics...it becomes our business also.

Like it or not....that is what comes with running for public office.

“Face it, Sanford is a fake.”

I’ve seen other posters make the claim that this doesn’t change his conservative ideals. My response, “How can it not?” If you’re willing to engage in an adulterous relationship where you constantly lie to your family, how trustworthy can that person be with their constituency?

Dems say affairs don’t matter (unless of course it’s a Republican). I say it’s a HUGE character flaw. Everyone has a right to be happy in their relationships, but don’t preach one thing and do another.

“Looks like where there was smoke there was fire”

But it could have been dust, fog or clouds.

“Are some of you now ready to say his political career is over”

That is entirely up to him, he could rise from the ashes like Jimmy Swaggart. I will say this, we will see as never before exactly what he is made of, how we handle adversity (even if we generate it) defines who we are.

Re: “I have absolutely no doubt they are being outed or outing themselves because of Rahm... he probably has PI’s on every single GOP politician digging for dirt...”

**********

Could be — so blame Rahm or anyone else but the truth is that if they were not GUILTY they could not be ‘outted.’ A pox on them all, no matter which party they belong to —

Hannity just listed a whole rag-tag group of them from the past decade or so and it’s amazing how these characters had opportunities to get into so much trouble, on OUR time and OUR dime.

Why don’t you EVER respond to my question of your name calling and nastiness?

I understand what you’re saying. But the thing I’m guilty of is giving a man who has done much for our cause the benefit of the doubt. To some folks here, that apparently is regarded as a joke for offering a vigorous defense. I’m still ashamed a lot of folks on here didn’t wait until the press conference before passing judgment. That was wrong by any stretch of the imagination. We’re better people than that, at least I thought we were.

BTW, some people mistake me for being exclusively supporting Sanford, and that’s not the case. I’ve said for a long time we needed to support as many solidly proven Conservative leaders (not the talkers, the doers), and I’ve defended attacks against Sanford and Gov. Palin, and stated I refused to take a side against either. With Sanford now out of the way, we’re going to see even more attacks on her over the course of the next 3 years. I’m not looking forward to that savagery.

Correct.

If he cannot be safely replaced, he needs to quietly serve out his term and leave.

As an aside, I am reminded of the studies that show serial killers and modern politicians share the same “people are there to be used” mindset.

I feel bad for those boys. They are school age and now all their friends see “daddy” on tv talking about another woman. As if divorce isn’t bad enough.

Geez..I guess we have our answers now. Just got home and heard the news on the radio. I missed his presser but it sounds like he took responsibility and what else is there to say? It is pretty sad. I had hopes for him as a leader in our party.

Oh well...Just one thing to say to all republican office holders:

If you have baggage..please remove yourself for the good of our party and the good of our country. We cannot allow Obama and the democrats to have unchecked power in Washington or our states! They are RUINING OUR COUNTRY!!

SO PLEASE GET OUT OF THE WAY IF YOU HAVE SECRETS OR BAGGAGE!!!

Thanks...(eye roll)

Who said I had a high opinion of his wife ? Go look up the last post to you. Maybe now he should’ve smartened up and run against Reid back in ‘04. When will these people learn that rodents aren’t our friends ?

“Why don’t you EVER respond to my question of your name calling and nastiness?”

He keeps calling himself a beacon for the Conservative movement on here which includes strong moral values, yet engages in the very same vitriol we witness from the left.

From what I’ve seen, the guy’s a posting contradiction.

I am with you on the boys. They don’t deserve this at all. It is really a shame that this had to happen. If he was going to have an affair, he should have resigned and become a private citizen.

Nonsense. Were you here during the Slick Willard wars ? Because I’m the premier battle-scarred veteran. Now that Sanford is out of the way, he’ll be training his sights on Gov. Palin to sabotage for 2012.

I would’ve had much more respect for Sanford if he had just ended his relationship with his wife, assuming he doesn’t love her anymore. Get a divorce...move on. Yes, it would’ve been hard on the family, but I wonder how things are now around the Sanford house?

Sneaking around, getting your staffers to lie for you, etc.....very slick Willie-esque.

which point don’t you understand, my response to your picture or my reply to your “thin skin” comment... I thought you were smarter than that.

“Face it, Sanford is a fake.” Now I am confused, are you saying that all his positions and actions were phony. He has to live with what he has done (so will we all) and this will affect his relationship with his family, his associates and his state. As I said in another post, we will now see, like never before, what kind of a man he really is.

Perhaps you too can find some resting place for that extraneous chip you seem so fond of. Condemning Governor Sanford based on pure opinion (unless the poster was his housekeeper and knew the family had no idea where he was) is characteristic of a female I personally would not want to be married to. YMMV, but your opinion is no more valuable now than it was two posts ago. Thank you very little.
