Another window is opening on Richard Nixon's presidency with the release of hundreds of tape recordings and thousands of documents from that time.
The latest materials from the Nixon Presidential Library, to be released Tuesday, will offer a glimpse into fateful days of the Watergate scandal as well as the waning days of the U.S. war in Vietnam. Nixon's Cold War diplomacy, the U.S. cease-fire with Hanoi and the administration's reaction to the Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion are included in the release.
The tapes, to be put online, are from January and February 1973. That period covers the conviction of burglars whose break-in at Democratic headquarters precipitated the cover-up that eventually unraveled Nixon's presidency.
Altogether, about 154 hours of tape recordings from the Nixon White House are being revealed, as are 30,000 documents. More than 2,200 hours of taped conversations have come out since the first release in 1980.
To the extent they show the inner workings of the Nixon administration and U.S. foreign policy, the materials are of keen interest to historians. The latest batch shows a president fresh from his second inauguration, yet soon to see his presidency go into a long slide. Nixon resigned in August 1974 under threat of being forced out by Congress.

Sorry, ZerO, this isn't going to make the American people worship you as you'd like them to. Sure, there will always be some zombies that you can control like puppets, but there are some Americans who were taken in by your "hope and change" mantra that are starting to wake up to what a miserable failure you are.
I just hope these next 4 years pass quickly so we can get you out of the White House and back to "community organizing" in Chicago.
“I thought that the National Archives released these things on some set time schedule after that person leaves office. If the time frame is 35 yrs., this may just be SOP.”
Could be you are right, however, I seem to think that, as his teleprompter speeches, everything is carefully arranged for a purpose.
I say rather than “trust but verify”, we should “not trust unless it is verified”.
This will remind us of Journalism and bring obvious news cover-up and questions about “Inspector Gate”
That is a good point, but will it stick with the current crop of so-called journalists?
Bingo! A sociopath always tries to deflect attention away from his failing. His narcissistic personality cannot stand to be scrutinized so he will use anything to divert attention from his declining popularity.
I can't recall how many independent investigators Nixon fired, but I'm sure Barry is either rapidly catching up, or has already surpassed that count.
Trying again to draw the attention of the sheep to an obscure and dark corner of the room so they won’t notice his gross incompetence on stage.
The IG situation today has parallels with Nixon’s “Saturday Night Massacre”. I’d like to see John Stossel dig into this and win a pulitzer.
Isn't it obvious that the whole Watergate "scandal" thing is almost entirely BS? Pro-communists from within the government were undermining Nixon and the war effort. He wasn't wrong for trying to expose that POS who released the top-secret Pentagon Papers to the NY Slimes. He should have been hung for that! We can't keep conceding crap like this to the lefties.
I’ll bet none of zero’s conversations are recorded. Just like everything else about him, there will never be any records of his activities.
This appears to be a case of misdirection of the public’s attention, just at a time when not just obama’s competence, but his integrity and Americanism is coming under closer scrutiny.
Look! Over here! See how evil the republicans (are) were?
Watch for McCain’s moron daughter to check in on the evils of Nixon soon, since it’s been so long out of the limelight for her.
Just saying.
It took the media 7 months of incessant pounding of the story before public opinion began to register in the polls. Watergate was the first and most effective media created scandal and has served as the template for nearly every republican “scandal” since.
The president with five aliases wants everyones but his records released.
Just got this in an email..
Greg Morton’s “obama man”

I repeat myself, but what the heck..I shall plaster it everywhere..
You are right. He is Narcissistic. Diverting attention will soon give way to blatant verbal attacks.
He’s also going to look polarized because eventually his personal goals will conflict with those of his prime Handler.
Thanks. We learn something new every day. How many degrees of separation is this group RCP/R.A.P. and the group that says they support the troops when they shoot their officers?
Don't know about that, but I imagine not many. However one RCP (Revolutionary Communist Party) member within John Kerry's Vietnam Veterans Against the War came up with a plot to assassinate certain U.S. senators who were in favor of winning the war. The RCP had a heavy presence in VVAW.

Cox was appointed by Pres. Nixon, and therefore he had the right to fire him, as Bork affirmed. Cox was a closet liberal trying to bring down Nixon, which act was eventually accomplished by Jaworski, Sirica, Baker and other socialist Democrats and treasonous Republicans.
Nixon was one of our greatest presidents. He can be ranked with the greats such as Washington, Reagan, and GW Bush, probably higher than Bush and just below Reagan.
ROFL. Let's not get too ahead of ourselves here.
