An Iranian philosophy professor protesting the elections in Iran has revealed in his personal diary on Facebook.com scenes that vary from surreal comedy to all-too-real brutality.

Exactly what I was thinking.
I need to start a photo diary documenting world uprisings where the citizens fought with sticks and rocks. Then post/email on every anti-gun site I can find. Not that it would do much good.
Coming to an America near you really soon. Bit by little bit, so the frog won't jump.
America -- a great idea, didn't last.
It won't. They each imagine they're going to be the ones in charge.
America -- a great idea, didn't last.
No it isn’t. It just isn’t as large as it has been portrayed. The America that kills babies is not America. It is the roots of the Amerika we see today.
Excellent idea.
With the exception of professional maverick Ron Paul,
Congress at least made the necessary GESTURE of issuing
a strong statement of support for the protestors.
Obama, predictably, waffled,( being the “Chief Executive”
he thinks he’s entitled to all kinds of important “nuance”), and in early statements even did a verbal ‘bow’ to “The Supreme Leader” Khameini, by referring to him BY THAT NAME, something NO OTHER ‘LEADER’ OF A WESTERN POWER WOULD EVER HAVE DONE! Hence, he showed him respect, and let it be know where he really stands.......only later did he issue his timid and tepid statements of support, drawing the well-deserved criticism of both Sarkozy and Gordon Brown, two men who’ve also been slighted by him in different ways, and who are VERY aware by now of just how odd it must feel to have someone like Obama at the helm of one of their presumed historic allies.
Obama has ushered in a confounding era in American politics: he ALWAYS shows just who he is, RIGHT AT THE OUTSET, just as he did with his initial response to the Iranian situation: as such, EVERYONE should take him at his word; he tips his hand immediately and there shouldn’t be any doubt where he stands. I , for one, am not going to be patient enough to assume he will “grow” in office; there is FAR TOO MUCH AT STAKE in the world right now for me to want to watch a movie called “The Education of Barack Obama”, and get a feelgood rush when he finally manages to come round to our way of thinking “in the end”.
It won’t happen, and I never assumed it would.
You have to believe we live a different existence than they.
The America that “legalized” killing of unborn human beings 35 years ago? That America?
“Christian America” is a sham. Words - just words.”
I live in America... I love JESUS and GOD... I abhor abortion as it is murder... but not just murder but the murder of the innocent. It violates not only GOD’s laws but the laws of our Founders. America is made up of millions of people like me and you... not just evilcrats and leftist trash. GOD would have spared Sodom but for the soul of one good man. Then you use a hussein phrase about “words” to convey your point... adding insult to injury. That is what I meant.

From “The Gulag Archipelago” —
And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family?
Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood that they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand?
After all, you knew ahead of time that those bluecaps were out at night for no good purpose. And you could be sure ahead of time that youd be cracking the skull of a cutthroat. Or what about the Black Maria sitting out there on the street with one lonely chauffeur what if it had been driven off or its tires spiked?
The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalins thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt!
If If We didnt love freedom enough.
I think we need to ship all of those guns and bombs back that they shipped to Iraq.
You’re a “glass is half empty” kinda guy, aren’t you?
Yes, just words. But GOOD WORDS.
That's the trouble with years of oppression - once the cork is removed from the bottle, so to speak, watch out! This was the reason for the strong reaction against Saddam. It also tells us how badly oppressed the Iranian people have been for all these years.

I think that will be the eventual outcome of this. Either the government will fall, or there will be so much subterfuge from an unhappy populace, that it will be severely limited.

Very true. Couple years ago I was having lunch with the corporate troops and one of the younger guys started bashing his catholic upbringing. Some of the younger guys started in with the christian bashing before I stepped in and reminded them that all of the freedom and liberties they enjoy today was a direct result of the judeo-christian culture and morals. Nary a word and lot's of hung heads after that speech.
Exactly and thank you for fleshing out the point I clumsily made upthread.
I thought your thread was very eloquent.
