On Monday night's "Late Show" host David Letterman re-addressed his comments about Gov. Sarah Palin and her teenage daughter. Letterman made a more serious apology than his response last week. "I had, honestly, no idea that the 14-year-old girl, I had no idea that anybody was at the ball game except the governor, and I was told at the time she was there with Rudy Giuliani," Letterman said.

The sponsors have spoken.

Drop dead Lefty no one is buying it!
Does anyone believe him anymore?
And instead of saying, “My God, I had no idea one of her daughters was even there!”, he basically said “lighten up”.
Now that CBS has at least one sponsor dropping ad purchases on the show, Letterman feels the need to clarify. And the clarification is that he doesn’t blame you for ‘misunderstanding’ the joke.
Ok, so he is sorry he told the “joke” because the child was at the game. So what. It was still a vile and disgusting “joke” about the rape of a 14 year old (I do not care if he thought he was making a joke about the rape of an 18 year old or not). Joking about rape is vile.
His is a spiritual problem and what he and his staff intentionally wrote is just the tip of the iceberg.
Where there's smoke, there's fire.
Whether or not he is believed, apology accepted. Personally, do I think he would have done it had a sponsor not pulled out? No. But, he apologized and we should have the class to leave it at that. Who knows, maybe he learned a valuable lesson.
OK I may be the lone voice in the wilderness, but I thought his apology was heartfelt and classy. But you’re right, Dave, your joke was indefensible and you should pay a retribution for it. WHAT that should be, I have no idea. That’s why I am not a judge, I suppose.
If it was about an 18 year old, she is of age. It wouldn’t have been rape.
You’re not alone.
And Freepers, before you all keep your shorts in a bunch over this, think - what is more important? Exacting revenge on the court jester or highlighting the crimes of the evil king?
OK maybe YOU didn’t know, Dave.
But what about the writers, and the staff, and the editors, and the guy who wrote the lines on your cue cards, or when you rehearsed the bit......?
This was a written, planned, rehearsed attack on Sarah Palin and her family, and foremost her 14 year old daughter.
Dave, you’re a piece of sh!t. And everybody involved with your little ratings game.
“Letterman apologizes”
Mea Culpa...
I suppose it is how you want to look at the “joke”. As he told the “joke” it sounds like rape.

Did he apologize to flight attendants for calling them slutty? And just because he thought that he was referring to Palin's 18 year old daughter, does that make her fair game for sexual jokes about being knocked up by Alex Rodriguez during a baseball game?
Letterman has yet to say he was a total jerk and that he went WAY over the line in his attempt to ridicule Sarah Palin by attacking her family. He is such an arrogant SOB that he will NEVER issue a real apology. NEVER.
Yeah...and maybe he cleaned out his hard drive and got rid of all his “Barely Legal” DVDs before the FBI comes calling.
I wouldn’t have taken it that way if Willow weren’t the one at the game. I would have taken it as a very classless disgusting joke about Bristol being promiscuous. In reality, neither is defensible; but, it wouldn’t have been rape in the latter case.
The part of his apology that I don’t buy is that he asked if Bristol was of age. Yeah, right.
But, the rest of it sounded okay so at least we have that. You don’t normally get a lib admitting they were wrong about anything.
Whether he is sorry or no is of no consequence. He needs to lose his job. In disgrace.
An immediate apology was not forthcoming. This means he is not sorry now, because nothing has changed between then and now except he’s under more heat to apologize. He’s not one bit sorry.
Unemployment is the best cure for Letterman. Out! Out! Forever out! Never darken our doorsteps nor intrude upon our living-rooms again!
