Yours if you want it (or use the link). Made it up, oh gosh, many years ago. Ca 2003? One of my first experiments in animated graphics.

The Praetorian Guard of Iran. I guess they are the modern day “Immortals”, and guess what happened to the “immortals” at Marathon in 490 B.C.

Didnt Iraq have a Revolutionary Guard too?
Saddam had four division of Republican Guard troops roughly deployed around Baghdad, in addition to about 30,000 in Security Forces and God knows how many fedayeen. All were hard-line Sunni fanatics to varying degrees.

One other factor missed is that even though the bad guys have plenty of thugs, they don’t have as many hard liners as they want due to many of them were killed in Iraq. That’s why they were called back to Iran. They were needed at home for things like this.

If the military commanders were going to take out Awhackienutjob he’d done been at room tempature. I’d like to think our policy makers had learned a few lessons and managed to get inside and set this up to overthrow the Regime. But I have about as much faith in them setting that up as them managing to set up a one car parade. Too many friends of Islam in congress with access to intel ops info to ever allow such to happen.

Whoa. Some Revolutionary Guards are defecting?? They’re supposed to be the staunch defenders of the Islamic Republic; Khomeini essentially created them. This is huge. If even they’ve had enough, it’s curtains for Khamenei & Company.

We clearly invaded the wrong country.
Saddam was a Western civilization loving, Scotch drinking, cigar smoking, Godfather, John Wayne and South Park fan. Too bad about the part where he gassed his fellow citizens or he would be a swell guy who hated the Shiite Persian Iranians like us.

********
Iraq had a Republican Guard.

Maybe these 16 guys didn’t want to be shooting their relatives and friends. It was speculated earlier today by some FReepers that even thought the Basij(sp?)were made out of fanatics, they are basically civilians and the army and Republican Guards might not join them in shooting citizens. Seems as if those FReepers may have been correct, at least partially.
