Tea Party organizer launches Senate bid Posted: 07:40 PM ET
From CNN Political Producer Peter Hamby
WASHINGTON (CNN) The Tea Party movement appears to have produced its first official candidate for national office.
Tom Cox, the founder and chairman of the Arkansas Tea Party organization, announced at a rally on Monday that he will seek the U.S. Senate seat held by Democrat Blanche Lincoln.
Cox, who owns Aloha Pontoon Boats in North Little Rock, has never sought elected office before. But after organizing a large Tea Party protest against the administration's fiscal policies in April, Cox said a number of local activists approached him about entering the 2010 race.
"I just believe there is a growing movement across the United States to find candidates that are different, that are more business-minded and so forth because they are tired of our tax dollars beying wasted," he told CNN in a phone interview.
Cox brushed aside doubts that Tea Party fervor can be successfully harnessed by a political campaign. He said that unlike in other states, the Arkansas Tea Party effort is "very organized" and "not just anti-Obama." He also argued that because the Tea Party movement is "center of the road" on social issues and is primarily concerned with fiscal responsibility, his campaign will be primed to appeal to Democrats and independents.

wOOt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don’t drink from the Potomac once you get there!
My hat is off to the gentleman!
I hope he is the first of MANY!!
and we need to send EVERY ONE of the brave souls who would run up there. Every single one of these folks have a huge advantage. They ARE the little people, out here, and they know they are getting up there for one reason and one reason only; we are MAD! If we can actually pull this off, and send back zero incumbents, no matter how good they are for us personally (since the message to all must be absolute) and send up either uknowns or third party types beholden to NO ONE but us, we have a great shot in 2010.
God bless you! Good luck!
A new party forming called the “Tea Party”?
True grass roots raising its “Don’t re-elect anyone” head. True, store bought, Lobbyist paid Politicians are exiting DC next election.
Business Patriots from the private Sector will win in a landslide and ask tough politically incorrect questions of the Congressional power hungry DC crowd.
Here comes the Americans from the heartland !
I thought the Tea Parties were about returning personal freedom and liberty to our government focus.
The movement is not about either of the two established parties.
God bless Tom Cox!
