HOBART, Ind. At the end of the 81-year marriage, the Isaksons said goodbye by turning off the lights. The partnership was over.
The Chrysler sign went dark.
It was an unceremonious finale to a four-generation bond between one family and one company, but it was not a surprise. Rob Isakson had known for weeks his dealership was on a Chrysler hit list the cuts were part of the troubled automaker's survival strategy...

you sound like a marxist. ever hear of the free market???
good grief.
No I didn’t..do tell
Good grief! I expoused no policies. How does that sound marxist to you?
Dismissing this TRAGEDY inflicted on them by this marxist government because they had nice houses in nice neighborhoods?? because they made a profit on the cars they sold?? did everyone that bought a car from them have the FREEDOM to go anywhere they wanted to buy a car???
It’s ridiculous to turn this into class warfare and that’s exactly what you are doing and what the left does.
I am not turning it into class warfare. I just said I had no sympathy for those that for decades lived off fat off the cow.
If those folks were overcharging as abusively as you seem to think they were, wouldn’t people have traveled to other dealerships to get a better deal?
Allowing for the fact you may have had a dealership in your community that was bad, I certainly don’t mind you addressing that fact, but you used a blanket statement that lends itself to sound more like class envy than anything else.
The plant and ancillary staff has to be kept running. It costs a lot to keep any business open. So what if the guy in your town has the best home in town. Someone will. Big deal.
You need to find something that you are good at, make money doing it. Then have the government come in and shut you down.
Are you sure you’re on the right site? This is a conservative site and we relish and appreciate CAPITALISM. Capitalism can also be called ‘living fat off the cow’.
How do you make your money? Government? Most likely someone that pays you is living fat off the cow.
Perhaps you should read up on capitalism and what it means. Also what it means to lose it.
“I actually have no sympathy for those old four-generation dealerships. The owners have the best houses in town in the best neighborhoods having lived on extravagant markups for decades.”
Sheesh! That’s a pretty LibTard sentiment. Those families have their money on the line. They have ‘skin in the game’, and should damn well reap the harvest of what they’ve sown. Had your family made the same investment four generations back, you’d be singing a different tune.
I don’t understand the mindset that vilifies success, and the rewards it brings.
It used to be the American way...until the 0bamunists arrived.
It is called business.Everything you buy is marked up.
It is called business.Everything you buy is marked up.
Call it quits. That cannot be defended.
The same day that the government took over GM, I traded in my Buick on a Honda.
Three years ago I walked into a Ford dealer. He had $5000 dollar markups above MRSP on certain models. When I inquired why he had such markups when other dealers were selling them without, he said he did it because he could sell them for that. I have no sympathy for such arrogance.
and....
Made by americans that WANT to work for a living instead of some stinking union thug.
I got my taste of a union briefly ... Ford in SW ohio. The crews were required to comple 3.5 shipsets per 8 hour shift. Started at 8:07 (that was the Union time negotiated) By 10:17 (official break time) the shipsets were done and the thugs played cards the rest of the day. I spoke out ...found out that wasn’t a popular thing to do, even among managers .... finally I quit.
Lazy bunch of dirtbags ... and their elected Union Stewards did even less.
Good riddance to GM and Chrysler .. don’t much care if Ford makes it either. Toyota makes a great truck in the Tundra ....
I’ll give Ford a shot, simply because they have yet to sell out to the socialist government.
The UAW is in charge of the country now. Looks like McCarthy had it right. Obama is straight from hell.
How is it "arrogance"? If he can sell them for more, why should he sell them for less?
Time was when Volkswagen, Porsche/Audi, Toyota, Mazda and Nissan dealers did this same trick -- routinely, nationwide -- because they could.
It's called supply and demand.
And, if a Ford dealer can get away with it, power to him.
I’m with you! I don’t understand all these people who think Ford is the answer! They are absolutely union entrenched and the UNIONS are the biggest problem. Absolutely NO UAW in ANY form!
