Similar to the prank some of my classmates pulled back when I graduated when they somehow acquired the Roberts Dairy Cow and planted it in front of the doors of the school.

Clever and entertaining. I remember reading about a gnome-napping and ransom notes sent with pics of him wearing a blindfold all over the country.

As pranks go, this one is funny and minimally disruptive. However, as the article stated "police are trying to reunite the 75 colorful garden ornaments with their rightful owners", there is obviously a cost involved - and the taxpayers are paying it.
These kids should be caught and made to return every single gnome. Might be a good lesson in the costs of "unintended consequences".

Not bad at all. My favorite was the MIT students taking apart a teachers VW and putting it together in his house.

Couldn’t they have bought some gnomes? Did they have to steal them all.
I love my gnome. I’d be really bummed if it got stolen.

I Agree. My Senior Class (81) had a student who had the idea of putting a car on top of the school gym as our “Senior Prank”. Unfortunetley, he was killed in an automobile accident 8 weeks shy of our graduation. Well, we all showed up for the big event, and lo and behold, we spy a Volkswagon Beetle on top of the gym with a huge banner on it, as a memorial to him. nobody got in trouble and the school didn’t mind a bit.........

I remember my son and some of his friends placing over 100 for sale signs they gathered from around the community in the lawn of the local elementary school. It included a huge "Warehouse space for rent" banner the suspended from the school roof.
