CNN) -- Chastity Bono, gay-rights activist and child of performer Cher and the late entertainer and politician Sonny Bono, is in the early stages of transitioning from a female to a male and will be known as Chaz, his spokesman said Thursday.
Chaz, after many years of consideration, has made the courageous decision to honor his true identity," Howard Bragman said in a written statement.
"He is proud of his decision and grateful for the support and respect that has already been shown by his loved ones. It is Chaz's hope that his choice to transition will open the hearts and minds of the public regarding this issue, just as his 'coming out' did nearly 20 years ago."
Someone's decision to transition does not necessarily mean they are undergoing gender reassignment surgery, and in many cases they do not, said Mara Keisling, executive director of the Washington-based National Center for Transgender Equality.

I wrote the exact same thing on another board - I’m so confused. I watched her on tv when I was a little kid, at the end of the show, her standing there while her parents sang ‘I got you babe’. She was so cute. Now she wants to use the mens room. All I can say is, good luck Chaz.

I believe you are being VERY generous in your numbers. more like 99.95% of lesbians are that by simple choice. another 0.04% chose that "life" because of gender-bending influences, and 0.01% are that way because of some genetic or biological screw-up (what some rude people call hermaphrodites -those born with organs of both genders and those who have seriously screwed up hormonal systems).

Nope. God doesn't make mistakes, no matter how much we would like to blame Him. The defects and screw ups are directly tied to sin and the effects of it. Personally, I believe Adam and Eve were genetically "perfect", but when sin entered in, things began to go wrong.
