Obama: Bailing Out GM and Chrysler, But Buying Fords
Federal Review ^ | 06/11/09

Posted on 06/11/2009 7:00:41 PM PDT by Behind Liberal Lines

The U.S. General Services Administration has admitted that the Obama White House, when replacing its fleet of government cars, buys more Fords than GM or Chrysler vehicles.

As reported by Autoblog, "[o]f the three American automakers, Ford was the clear winner of government funds with a total of 7,924 Blue Ovals bought and paid for at a total of $129 million...."

No word yet from the administration on why it hands billions in tax dollars to two auto companies to keep them in business...and then takes the majority of its business to a competitor.

On the other hand....

Do you really want the government to give preferencial treatment to Government Motors?

I belive that eventually the feds will begin to drop Ford altogether. State and local governments will probably do the same.

It would be interesting to see the actual bids on these.

I've never had a Ford, but I remember the family's Pintos.

I didn't really want the government to buy GM in the first place. However, given "they" (we) own it, it's pretty poor business management to buy from your competitor.

You view Ford as "our" competitor? Maybe you'd be in favor of driving Ford out of business by undercutting them on price. With the printing presses printing money, "we" can sure afford to do it.

They’re buying Ford b/c they know how and who will be running GM and Chrysler. Sort of like ‘Never trust a skinny cook’.

I doubt that, the Crown Vic is really the ideal vehicle at least for police work.

And the New GM and New Chrysler are unlikely to come up with a competitor as Obama has committed them to marketing econoboxes.

What a beautiful Ford GT. I actually saw one just yesterday. For some strange reason I couldn’t quite keep up with it in my Saturn ION.

Uh - I hope Ford is getting the business through the competitive bidding process.

Any other way is cheating the public and a sign of major corruption. Why would we support that?

Not a shock. Ford Fleet sales is a legend. Most large companies and PD’s buy from Ford too.
