Does anyone know if this is legal? We just got a parking ticket for parking in the grass in our own yard. The ticket says "can not park on grass or unpaved area(even if your own yard). I swear to god this is what the ticket says and its a $50 ticket that doubles to $100 then doubles to $200 Does anyone know anything about this law????
No, astroturf it! Two advantages:
1. They'd still have a green "yard".
2. No grass, no ticket.
If that doesn't work, park the car in the tree. :^)
OOPS! I meant the first line in my last post to say...
No, pave then astroturf it!
It was simply a matter of the car being parked in the same spot for many months. I wasn't driving it because it had left me stranded in an intersection a couple times. It needed some additional service work to ferret out the problem. The money for the repairs wasn't in the budget at the time, so it remained parked. I subsequently ran the car through Black Forest in San Diego. Their #1 914 tech fixed the problem by replacing the "brain box" that controls the fuel injection. That was part of the "tune up" to pass the Smog II. Over the years I've owned the car, the "tune up" to pass the smog tests has exceeded the original purchase price of the car. Idaho doesn't force smog tests in the Pocatello area. All I have to do is pay for my annual registration and leave the car parked in the garage. The car is fun to drive, but you really have to plan for a significant ongoing maintenance budget to keep it running in top form.
Then It makes sense, because they ARE money grabbing socialists...
I may be off here, but my understanding is that an easement is what allows a person to cross/drive through anothers land to get to theirs. It is a legal agreement that grants a right to use someone elses land w/out ownership.
It sounds like you are describing eminent domain. This is a lovely little law that allows the state to take your private property for the public good. They must compensate you if they do so. It was intended to allow such things as roads to be built w/out forcing the government to pay insane prices to opportunistic holdouts. It was this little wonder that has allowed governments to steal businesses and give them to other businesses because the sweetheart deal that the political criminals cut w/ the private sector criminals to get a big "tax role", and personal KA-CHING for all involved (except the original owner, of course). I don't think this applies here.
Other posts suggest it is a law that was enacted to prevent WT-syndrome. But that doesn't mean it must be applied. If I were the homeowner I would find out 1) who, if anyone, ratted them out and find some nice codes to turn them in for. 2) Verify what constitutes turning one's front yard into a driveway, (but watch out for any required permits, or a $50 ticket could change to a $150 improving w/out a permit violation) and then, if possible, do the sprinkle the lawn w/ gravel trick. Take photos and have the ticket dismissed.
They all want to live in the LAST house built in the state.
LOL I had to read your response several times before I got it....:O)
I remember recently reading that in DC it is illegal to park in some drivewys even if the driveway belongs to the person parking there. Seems to be a way to raise revenues.

Thanks. It was intended to be subtle.
Yes, some cities use tickets for fundraisers. There is a certain street I travel whose speed limit is 25. It is wide but receives very little traffic most of the day. The speed limit should be 35. There is often a police car there with photo radar. Thirty days later, you get a “civil” ticket, which does not go on your license. $100. Why that street? Because often there is only one car in the photo, which is required to give the ticket. Busy, dangerous, accident prone areas are ignored.
But when various laws were first set up, there were meant to be deterrents. Now, some cities do use them as fundraisers.
What can be done? Much letter writing, letters to the editor, visits to city hall, organizing, etc. Otherwise they will get worse. Let them know you want laws enforced to prevent certain behaviors, not mainly to raise money.
In most areas, the area next to the road is part of the right of way. If you have sidewalks, the sidewalks are not on your property. Yours begins a few inches on the house side of the sidewalk. Yes, you need to cut their grass and maintain their sidewalk in most areas.
All good. This law was enacted in 1978 and never enforced until March of this year, after the voters denied them their bond issue or tax increase or whatever it was.
I think this is the greater issue as opposed to wether or not it’s a good law.
YES!!!!!!
And all these phony “conservative” leftists deserve what they get, just a damn shame so many innocent people will get it too.
Hank
Ah, revenge on the voters! Classic politics. Hope you can vote them out next time around.
I’m in NJ (even worse), I just did a little research ;)
To answer your question, I think we need more information...
1. How many months had the car been parked in the front lawn?
2. How many dogs were living under the car when the ticketing occurred?
3. Did the car still have a working engine?
4. Has this car been used in a demolition derby recently?
5. Does your car have a bumper sticker that says, “Quit Honking! I’m Reloading!”
Thanks. We await your response.
Last month i got a ticket for parking the wrong way in a shopping center parking lot on Lawn Giland. And not only is that a stupid enough ordinace, but I parked (head out, not head in) in the back on the lot, and there were no cars within 50 yards of mine.

In response to your questions.
1. The car wa parked there for about 25 minutes.
2. There were no dogs living under, near, next to the car.
3. The car was just driven to the grocery store.
4. No its a 93 Mustang and we wouldn’t use it in the demo-derby.
5. No bumper stickers.
UPDATE:
The following night the same guy came and ticketed the little old lady acroos the street again. So now she has 4 tickets totaling $200 dollars. My husband went out and purchased NO TRESPASSING signs and the put them up on our house and her house across the street.
One of our other neighbors up the street got 2 tickets in the same 2 nights as well.
He bought the house up the street that was run down and is in the process of fixing it up, he has put up new siding, cut the grass and he parked a car in the yard so the bums wouldn’t try to move into the house.
He has called a lawyer friend of his and we are going to fight this.
I just feel horrible for the old lady across the street. Her husband just passed away, they have a gravel driveway and this jerk keeps giving her tickets every night.
Hey now, is that a ‘47?
