Written by CHQ Staff on June 03, 2009, 04:47 PM If there ever was a paradigm for the GOP's post-Bush administration identity problem, the Florida Republican primary for Senate is it. In the primary race to fill the seat being vacated by Republican Mel Martinez, moderate/liberal Republican Governor Charlie Crist is running against young, politically successful Hispanic conservative Marco Rubio.
However, to the chagrin of conservatives across America, the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC)a national committee that helps elect Republicans to the Senateendorsed Crist.
NRSC Chairman Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) has a lot of explaining to do.
For an organization that supposedly champions curbing spending, lowering taxes and controlling debt, the endorsement of Crist, who among many controversial moves hailed President Barack Obama's disastrous stimulus plan, is hypocritical and dishonest. Rather than staying out of the race as it traditionally does in races without a Republican incumbent, the NRSC is taking money from conservative donors to fund a moderate/liberal candidate running against a conservative.
Rubio's record as Florida Speaker of the House is one of a conservative working to limit the size and influence of government. Conversely, Crist's time as governor is marred by what Club for Growth spokesman Andy Roth calls a "liberal record on fiscal issues," which is so bad the Club for Growth believes Crist "could easily become the new Specter."
But, the NRSC missed this bit of irony when endorsing Crist. In fact, if you've visited the NRSC homepage recently, you're immediately presented with a solicitation to "Support the NRSC and Stand Up Against Former Republican Arlen Specter."
Why would conservatives want to help an organization take down one moderate/liberal while it seeks to replace him with another? I doubt many conservatives expected their donations to be used to defeat a fellow conservative, yet that is exactly what is occurring.
Instead of taking a step towards rebuilding the shattered image of the GOP from years of unprincipled leadership, Cornyn's NRSCwith conservatives' donor contributionsis helping a moderate/conservative defeat a proven conservative and an exciting candidate.
As conservatives, we have nothing to loose and everything to gain by working to change the Republican leaders and replacing them with principled conservatives. And we can do this by withholding financial support from all national GOP committees, and withholding financial support from most state committees.
I’m done with the RINO party. Done.
I'd like to see the proof of that statement.
I was done when Cornyn supported Snarlin Spincter. I guess the Pubbies think they need a new homosexual senator.
Support the National Republican Trust Pac, they support conservatives in the Primary.

call them tomorrow folks..let them hear your rage!
Cornyn is an inside the beltway Washington Insider...not a Texan anymore IMO.
The solution is; donate the candidates directly. Forget the GOP. I have sent them heated emails about their failure to stand for anything.
Rubio is a solid conservative. He gets my $$, not the GOP and surely not that puke RINO, Crist.
The day the NRSC endorsed Crist I called them and politely told the nice young lady who answered the phone to let the people in charge know this was a BIG BIG BIG mistake.
She was gracious and said she would pass the message on.
The NRSC will NOT get my money. Neither will the RNC.
OTOH, Marco Rubio has gotten some of my hard earned dollars.
Win or lose, I am going to keep my principles.
FLORIDA PING, JOE.
But it is no longer a political party thing for me now. In spring of 2008 I started calling WAMU a dead bank walking. In May of 2009 I started calling the US a dead country walking.
This is what a WAMU branch now looks like:
We have yet to see what this will be changed to, or if they will keep the same sign:
Make no mistake. They may keep the same name and even the same flag and speak the same language, but a person projected in time from a mere one year ago will soon - very soon - not recognise this country.
The frog is almost completely boiled alive.
Oh I can explain for Cornyn — no problem! They aren’t interested in “Conservative” or “Moderate” (or even “Liberal” for that matter). They really don’t care so much about “Republican” or even “Democrat.”
THey are about “Washington” vs. “Flyover Country.” They care about their POWER rather than “We THe People.” They like their PERKS more than Constitutional PRINCIPLES...
I think that about covers it. How’d I do? Hope Cornyn likes my answer — or at least GETS THE MESSAGE.
They don’t get it.
They are clueless.
No money from me.
Just make sure you put your money where your mouth is and actually send some bucks to Rubio, Toomey, or other good conservative candidates.
How about this as a worthy project for FR or some other conservative/libertarian blog: a list of credible candidates worthy of the support of FR readers, something like Emily’s List long used to funnel support of women to (liberal) women candidates.
They said the same thing about Spincter. How’d that work out? Maybe Crist’s campaign slogan can be, “I’ve got a better tan than Mark Foley, vote for me”
NOT ONE PENNY TO ANY NATIONAL ARM OF THE RINO PARTY.
Their brethren in the house behave exactly the same way. I now have a democrat congressman directly due to the actions of the GOP.
Right before the election they declared my conservative congressman to be a lost cause and stripped him of money. The “lost cause” lost by a whopping 2%.
Never forget that moderates and RINOs are manipulative lying scum who will hand a seat to the democrats at the drop of a hat if they think they can use fear to elect another RINO next time around.
I concur.
