NASA Scientists Find Evidence For Liquid Water On A Frozen Early Mars
Science Daily ^

ScienceDaily (June 2, 2009) — NASA scientists modeled freezing conditions on Mars to test whether liquid water could have been present to form the surface features of the Martian landscape.

Researchers report that fluids loaded with dissolved minerals containing elements such as silicon, iron, magnesium, potassium and aluminum, can remain in a liquid state at temperatures well below freezing. The results of this research appear in the May 21 issue of Nature magazine entitled "Stability Against Freezing of Aqueous Solutions on Early Mars."

NASA whores for global warming... how am I to believe they have any clue about climate anywhere?

NASA may be whoring for Global Warming dollars, but they do have some REAL scientists there who know that there is no research if there is no funding... so....

I’m pretty sure I learned that dissolved electrolytes lower the freezing point of water sometime before age 6 when I poured salt on an ice cube. Kids up north probably learn this fact at an earlier age.

Let me get this straight, if you put salt on ice, it will melt the ice. This is revolutionary.

Thank you NASA, those MIT educations are really paying off!

That was my first reaction, but digging deeper, it seemed the point was recreating the conditions (pressure, temperature, chemicals) as found on Mars and modeling the long term reaction of those elements. How long would it last, for example, before it evaporated.

Let's see.

Applying Earth complexities to a world 6 million miles away using a small rolling limited laboratory to interpret results.

Think you could do that sitting in your living room?

I didn't think so.

Ahh, the Water Found on Mars story yet again for the 3,000th time ... and that means what exactly, life springs from nonlife? yawn .... Man is never going to colonize space, or mine from space, or do anything spectacular in space.

That reminds me of this quote:
Everything that can be invented has been invented. - Charles H. Duell 1899

Well, I’ll make an exception, we can still have our “Earth First, we’ll log the rest of the planets later” bumper stickers as a dispensation ...

“Man is never going to colonize space, or mine from space, or do anything spectacular in space.”

As long as space is only accessable by way of strapping yourself to a roman candle, yeah, you’re right.

But technology moves on. I hope to see a space elevator before I die.

If you can’t appreciate the inherent irony wrapped up in the NASA statement then you need to lighten up a little FRiend.

Damaged credibility is damaged credibility. If you lie to me when you sell me a car, why would I believe you when you want to sell me a house?
