President Obama's scheduled visit to a former Nazi concentration camp is being done for "political reasons," the president's great-uncle -- who helped liberate that camp -- said in a recent interview.
Obama plans to visit Germany's Buchenwald site as part of his multi-country tour, which begins this week.
Charles Payne, Obama's great-uncle who helped liberate a sub-camp of Buchenwald during World War II, spoke frankly about the visit in an interview with Germany's Der Spiegel magazine.
Asked if Obama would be traveling in his footsteps, Payne said: "I don't buy that. ... This is a trip that he chose, not because of me I'm sure, but for political reasons."
He said Obama also might be trying to improve his "standing" with Chancellor Angela Merkel, since "she gave him a hard time during his campaign and also afterwards."

[Sounds like Great-Unc likes Obama style fascism too]
I took it differently devolve. His uncle was asked if Obama would be traveling in his footsteps, Payne said: “I don’t buy that. ... he’s doing it for political reasons”
A criticism I thought. What do you think?
Or, Obama could just be looking for ideas...

His brother is much like Barack
“Maybe a little blow.....”
His brother in Kenya had been arrested for something involving selling drugs I believe
“Sorry Charlie. No seat on Air Force One for you”
Uncle Charlie’s next VA appointment will be at Club Gitmo.
You will discover that there is also another brother Jon who is pictured with Ann and Jr during the often mentioned across America tour when Jr was 11 or 12. In the picture Jon describes as his long hair days, you can see Ann, Jr and Jon in Chicago. Jon is the youngest and at one time lived in AZ, while Arlene lives in N.C. and Charles lives in Chicago and has for many years. FredNerks has the most extensive photo collection and would know exactly which photo I am referring to. It has been posted on FR in the past but I must confess that I do not know exactly which thread it was posted on although I am sure that FredNerks does have or knows of the photo which I am referring to.

Unc says he was afraid of Joe McCarthy
But that he admires Obama
He may say his trip is political
But he does not criticize Obama for nationalizing banks, GM, etc.
He is a democrat
Have you noticed he is going tieless more often lately like Amahdinjad? Muslims object to ties, consider them a symbol of the West.
Yeah, he probably is a democrat and no doubt would be careful of much criticism.

No jacket in the Oval Office
Then no tie in the Oval Office
Michelle in a cocktail dress
Obama in an open white dress shirt and suit
He needs to be different - to contrast and stand out from others
And snort coke
Uncle Charlie is a democrat and made an extremely brief appearance at the Dem Convention before Maya took to the stage. He worked for many years at the library at the University of Chicago.
Yes, it’s bizarre. Obama’s grandfather seems to have been a strong leftist, maybe a Communist. I would guess that the whole family may have leaned that way.
[He needs to be different - to contrast and stand out from others]
He did look odd, going to a dressy affair without a tie.
Nothing wrong in trying to be different or stand out. I have never gone ‘with the flow’ as to dressing. Had my own style and was always complimented.
It’s what’s in his heart and mind and aspirations that we need to fear.
Thanks, I did miss Uncle Charlie at the convention but did see Maya.
I’m surprised, then, that he made the ‘political reasons’ comment or perhaps I’m putting too much into that quote!
.
Maybe Unc is trying to “humanize” a cold Obama for him - like a defense attorney does for his killer or pediphile client in court
In the meantime - GM goes bankrupt - and Obama appoints a new Board of Directors and hands the unions a huge share while banning some competing foreign cars
Where is the coin now?
[Where is the coin now?]
Sotomayer’s flipping it in the gif I made.....snicker
TaDa
I thought a relative could pull his HI BC. Maybe this old soldier will do one last thing to serve and save his country.
Alas, later in the article it is reported that, despite differences related to the liberation of Buchenwald, Obama’s great-uncle is on friendly terms with him.
No, I do not have that photo, cannot recall ever seeing it.
A link would be helpful.
